True Tears: Episode 3

Rating: 8.3/10

Impressions:

Damn…this show is good. True Tears was on the top of my most-anticipated list for this season (Aria wasn’t really included since I simply saw it as a continuing to Aria the Natural, which is a nice show to watch when you feel like it, but not something you would really want to see the next episode due to suspense or excitement etc). And it’s nice to see that True Tears is going even further beyond my originally high expectations. I remember someone saying this would be a step down from Clannad and/or ef, but I reckon it’s just as good. Personally, I’m enjoying this show a lot more than Clannad right now.

The thing that this show has and Clannad doesn’t is quite obviously a ‘real’ harem, but this harem show utilises a more romance-orientated story basis, rather than a straightforward bitch-fight or fanservice haven. But that’s going a little off track. Clannad has the drama, but it’s too slow and (IMO) repetitive MAINLY because I’ve already seen Kanon. Also, Clannad lacks the romance, which I think should be present in any drama series involving young people. ef – a tale of memories does it, and the good thing about that is that there’s no harem in the show. If you wanna talk about School Days, it failed because of it’s absurdity and excessive harem elements.

True Tears is actually a lot more complicated than I originally expected. For one, there are a lot more ‘problems’ in the world of True Tears than a normal love/harem show. The bad relationship between Shin’s mother and Hiromi; the love problems (Hiromi apparently likes Noe’s brother, while Noe and Ai seem to like Shin, and Shin seems to like Hiromi…); the strange phenomenon’s that happen in Shin’s head; and I can foresee some more issues with Shin’s best bud and Noe’s older brother, who are sure to become more important characters. Or I hope anyway, just to further spice things up a bit. And one last thing: Hiromi is by far the best character!! =D

Won’t spoil but you’ll probably love the next episode of Clannad, just saying.
And yes True Tears is pretty good

Yeah this is one of the best shows this season, if not the very best! Indeed it’s not a harem, it’s a psychological drama - my favourite =).

“Hiromi is by far the best character!! =D”
That’s cool. Although H2O is no where near as good, I still like Hayami the best :3.

I don’t have favorite character. I don’t know the reason why I draw into this series. It’s very simple any yet very entertain in every episode + the artwork is really nice too. Noe’s character is too weird for me. It will be interesting to see the reason that make her acting that way and giving away her tear stuff. If I would have to pick, I want Hiromi to end up with Shin. I thought that it would be nice once a while for childhood friend end up at the ending. Also, I really want to know the reason what make Hiromi being untruthfully to herself. I mean, it’s gonna be more than just she feels indebted to Shinichiro’s family when she come to live with them.

BTW, Danny, have you watch Shigofumi? You may like that show too. Just give it a try.

I think that Hiromi was lying personally, but who knows? We’ll find out soon enough.

M12: hmmm, i cant really say i like any of the H2O characters anymore…>_>

kenshin514: in Gift ~ Eternal Rainbow, the childhood friend ends up with the male lead =). ive seen the first episode of shigofumi, but im not going to blog it because i’d be doing too much.

Scoro: lol whats wrong with hiromi? >_<

Naota: hmm…i cant remember what she was lying about xD

Gantzy: ah yes, i think shes lying as well. but what i was trying to say is that regardless of whether shes lying or not, it will create problems for her and shinichiro since now it seems obvious that shin will believe what she says

i agree, i think she’s lying too. and youre prediction seems right Danny.

It sucks to know they like eachother (or you can assume) but then she/he ends up going for someone else. Or nobody does anything to be with them ahahah. You know what i’m talking about, to lazy to explain -_-

Maybe you’re expecting the wrong thing from Clannad. Clannad’s romance is kept to a minimum compared to other so-called “harem” shows, to put more emphasis on its main theme: family. For me, that’s a good thing - Romance gets tiring very fast. If you’re trying to find some intense romance, then Clannad isn’t for you. Still, I agree that there are some re-used elements from Key’s previous works, and that can get repetitive.

True Tears is definitely an intriguing series, not because of its theme (we have enough romance themed animes) but because of its top-notch animation quality. Even though Romance doesn’t intrigue me anymore, the quality alone is drawing me in.

Episode 3 is starting to heat things up. Hiromi’s background is more mysterious than I thought.

But Shigofumi’s still more intensifying, too bad you are not blogging it.

mako: thats the one thing i never understand in many of those animes ive seen in the past…

solgae: nope, its not about what i expected. i knew full well what clannad would entail after watching kanon.

inugamo: ah well, i personally liked the first episode of true tears more than shigofumi. i probably would have blogged it in place of h2o, but i had hoped the show wouldnt nosedive after episode one, which it did.

Just the fact that we’re chatting about whether she’s liking, goes to so how deep True Tears’ characters are. Wow!
