Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpucho: Episode 3

Rating: 9.8/10
Impressions:
So this episode goes from where the last leaves off, and its completely about Aoi this time (a BIG plus for me!) Ok, it’s generic, big deal. I can think of this show as the original shounen, even though obviously it is not. But the quality and action just make everything awesome regardless! Anyway, this episode is about Aoi and how all the other guys with super powers tell her she is useless, has no offensive ability and should not participate in battle, yadayadayadah! And of course, when the chance arrives and everyone gets pretty beaten up by some crow controlling, lightning rod demon guy, Aoi steps up to the stage and uses her inredible Inoue-like defensive abilities to save the day!

Well actually, Aoi’s abilities are pretty different from Inoue, as they are primarily psychic and levitating capabilities, and the latter can be used as barriers by stopping incoming foes in their tracks. Still not as much action as the first, but definitely still as good, with the quality and pacing as good as ever. It seems like there are going to be character-centric episodes for a while, which makes me think this will be something like a 26 episode series. This isn’t a bad thing at all, as the plot is still moved forward, with the continuing reappearances of the demon girl and the ambiguous guy. Also, we get to see in depth each character’s special abilities!

Ok ok, slightly more in depth summary of events: Some emo punk with a guitar is going crazy in an apartment near the city, and is surrounded by evil looking crows, all the signature deadly red eyes. Ambiguous guy and demon girl come and give him some sort of powers (making him an oni?), which he uses to first control the crows and use them to terrorise the city. Meanwhile in school, Aoi is reminiscing about the night before, when Kisaragi had explained to the guys (Tatsuma, Kyouichi, Aoi, Komaki and Daigo) how they have special powers in them. Aoi is particular worried when she learns she has no offensive powers at all, and is only a useful support.

But anyway, after a while of being down, Aoi goes to talk to Kyouichi about working together and stuff to defeat enemies (namely, oni), but she is put down for not possessing any combat abilities. She runs off hurt, but doesn’t truly crack just yet. Later that night, after hearing a girl scream, the group end up together where the sound had originate to find a large oni to kill. At home later, after seeing the news about the crows, Aoi goes to investigate, but only ends up getting a rough lecture from Kyouichi about not getting involved. She is saved by Komaki and Daigo though, even though it’s not like Kyouichi would’ve done anything bad to her.

Anyway, Tatsuma and Toono come as well, before the arrival of the emo guitarist from the start of the episode. It seems he has the red marks too, and is capable of controlling electricity. Of course with this, he easily defeats everyone, who don’t know how to use their powers. All the while, Aoi has to watch on helplessly, until she steps in and defends everyone with her powers. Demon girl and partner are also watching by the way. The episode finishes after Aoi resolves to get involved and fight, so the next episode should go on from there. It’s not like anyone has died yet, so they need to wrap this up. And most likely more Aoi as well!

And if you missed this last time…

I’m under the impression lightning rod guy is different from guitar-frenzy dude. If I’m not wrong, LRG was asking Kyoichi about Ryoichi whom he believes is related to the crow incident.
hmm yeah youre probably right, i didnt really catch that and im crap with names/characters! xD
ehhh….i just realised it says episode 2 on the first group of 6 screen shots….sigh
Like I said before this series looks promising, kinda reminds me of Blood+ I might get it now even though I think Im watching too many at the moment. I think ill drop kekkaishi as it has kinda disappointed me and pick this one up.
Fan Girl > I love Kyoichi he’s is my fav. I always did like guys like him. Anime and real. I don’t like Aoi ( no offense ) girls like her just annoy me. All so innocent acting and all. Plus she gets hurt easily. Anyways thank you so much for blogging this series. For some reason other blogger stop at epi 2 and say they don’t want to go on with it.
haha, i actually kinda agree with Tokki, (being also a fangirl and all).
), i like how she jumped in at the end of the episode to help her friends and made her lil speech, makes me like her a bit more than before. Oh! and her Dragon Vein/Markings are really cool too
I love Kyouichi, his character and personality, it’s really one that seems to attract alot of attention (from fangirls =P ), and he’s the only one (besides Tatsuma) who seems to be capable of handling a fight. We never got to see Tatsuma fight this episode, but from the fight from last episode, between him and Kyouichi, we can see that they’re pretty much even in terms of fighting. Daigo and Komaki, on the other hand, don’t seem to be as skilled… but i’m srue their powers will grow with time…
Now, about Aoi, like Tokki had said, her character annoys me (is this something that all fangirls dislike? the innocent-looking, soft-spoken heroines?). It’s too… innocent, and why do all the innocent girls have no powers and only seem to be capable of being back on defense instead of offense? But! Before people start reading this and decide to correct me on how i’m wrong and that Aoi is a fabulous character, i do, have to say that she’s kinda grown on me. She seems to accept the fact that she dosen’t have any offensive powers, yet, she still wishes to help her friends and the way she says “i’m sorry” makes it feel like she really is sorry that she can’t help out,(also, the fact that we seem to see more of Kyouichi when Aoi is around, really isn’t a bad thing either
=)
On a side note, i loved the animation during the battle scene, quality was great as always. And i’m really starting to love the opening song~!
=P
I predict that Aoi and Tatsuma will end up together even though Kyoichi is the obvious choice right now. That is just the way anime is.
