Tokimeki Memorial ~ Only Love: Episode 3

Impressions:
Tokimeki is still holding out pretty well. The quality saw a little drop with the slight waver in art consistency. The storyline has sort of settled somewhat – no more crazy ’round-the-school chases with animal ears, no more Yakuza Chicken pwning random people, and of course, no more mindless comedy. Aww…At least all that was exchanged for some character development, as well as some progression in Tsukasa’s one-sided love. But in the end, it doesn’t seem like Aoba got closer to his supposed girlfriend at all. Already his starting to fall with the ’second’ girl in line, Mina. Tsukasa will make a comeback surely! But she won’t be able to beat Amamiya. She’s the most likely girl that Aoba will end up with, as she is the school idol. It’s a little sad since I really, really do NOT like Amamiya at all. She’s even worse than the ‘hohoho’ princess type. I hate her personality; it’s just so extremely boring. She’s not even cute! Both Tsukasa and Mina are better than her. At least those two should provide some more entertainment before Aoba makes his move on Amamiya…if he does. Next episode appears to be an AobaxMina episode (aww, Tsukasa got dumped already?)

It’s a shame Aoba and Tsukasa’s one-off was done completely wrong. Everything they did was perfectly normal, and normal = boring. Not cliché normal, as that’s still enjoyable, but extreme normal, like walking home together. Something more original please! Anyway, right now the show doesn’t seem like a harem at all, as in reality there are only two girls who are interested in Aoba. The girls don’t even know each (well, they’re not close anyway) so it seems rather branched out and isolated. The series has only a season’s worth of episodes to work with, so it’d be pretty sad if too many episodes result in nothing, like this one almost did. I have a feeling that Tsukasa will realise that Aoba is not really her true love, but she’ll still be happy that he helped her find the true meaning of some special thing. I really can’t see Amamiya acting all infatuated with Aoba, so I guess the best she can do would be blush maybe. I know! Why not pair Tsukasa and Mina with Aoba’s two friends and go on a triple date with Amamiya! No, a better word is a ‘group outing’ lol. That’s definitely what the anime is missing. There is only ever interaction between Aoba and one of the three girls. More communication would really save this show from continuing downhill, as it seems to be titling on the edge at the moment.

Plot Outline:
- On the same day as that faithful morning when Aoba met Tsukasa, our depressed star is walking through the school corridors being eyed by everyone who had heard about the incident
- When he gets outside, he encounters Tsukasa who had been waiting to go home with him
- The two stroll home, but Tsukasa gets a message reminding her that she has volleyball practice, so she grabs Aoba’s hand and takes him running back to her house
- However, she only wanted to try going home with her boyfriend as she’s never done it before
- After finding out Aoba’s name, she runs back to school for practice
- Tsukasa tells her friend that she has just got a boyfriend, completely ignorant of the fact that Aoba never said he shared her feelings (sheesh how thick…)
- The next day, Tsukasa makes a bento for Aoba, but the food tastes so horrible that even the Yakuza Chicken was rendered immobile after eating some!

- Although Aoba says it’s really good, Tsukasa finds out that it tastes bad in the end and takes up cooking classes with a cooking teacher (I think)
- She manages to produce a delicious meal to present to Aoba, who has just gone to have a cuppa with the school nurse, talking about his supposed girlfriend
- When Aoba tries the new bento and says how good it is, Tsukasa becomes delighted and decides to make lunch for him everyday, as a ‘couple’ should do
- When Aoba is returning home, he gets caught in the rain and rushes to a bike shed nearby
- Waiting out the rain with him is Mina, who reveals another thing to Aoba without a second though: the fact that she likes rainy days as they are not normal (though, there are places where rain is more frequent than sun…)
- She also calls him ‘Aoba’, which surprises him as he never told her his name
- Mina blushes and runs off, just as the rain stops
- Oh, and Mina reveals that she is in year 1 and in the swimming club

The interchanging between crazy comedy and calm slice-of-life is good. I can only take some much outrageousness, unless its from School Rumble[and includes Eri or Yakumo].
Amamiya is like a robot to me, the other two are a bit more ‘real’. Don’t really care for Amamiya atm.
I love this show. But I still don’t get why Amamiya is so popular. There are others that cuter then her. Well, I guess everyone taste is not the same.
I guess the anime tried perceives her as ‘beautiful’ and ‘elegant’ as opposed to cute or hot. Still, I definitely agree when she’s not the best. In fact, I think she’s easily beaten out by the other two harem candidates.
