Any Japanese that reads that will probably kill you, gegege no kitaro is one of the most succesful and loved shows in japan and is from the 60’s. There are remakes from the 80’s and 90’s and one of 2007, also a lot of movies including a live action one. It even has it’s own museum.

Hmmm I’ll be sure to look into some of these anime. Thanks for the summary! I’m trying the first few episodes of Ookiku Furikabutte, at first I had serious doubts about this, I mean, wierd faces and I’m not into sports myself but after alot of recomendations, I tried and it’s actually quite good
