Spring 2007 Preview!

Did anyone notice my post count drop? Well, that’s because I foolishly left this post until the last minute, so for the past few days, I have been frantically compiling this list of new anime next month. I know I missed a few, and the information could well have changed since I wrote them. Also, there are some new spring shows that will be airing after next month, which I didn’t include. In total, I think I have around 40 anime previews. Anyway…
With spring fast approaching, I’ve done what just about every other blogger has or will do: a spring preview post. I’ve tried to be as comprehensive as possible, though I know I’m missing a few titles (though I have what I think are the most major ones). I have given what I know about the anime, and the likelihood of me watching or blogging the show. As you know, I definitely can’t blog all the shows I watch (unless I end up watching very few shows), so I will pick out the ones that are easiest to blog, or the ones I like best. With the current anime I am blogging finishing up, I will have 10 or so spots to fill, which will be pretty hard, as spring is the biggest season of the anime year. (I think it goes like this, from largest to smallest: spring, fall, summer, winter). But anyway, I will probably do the first episodes of every anime I watch, unless it is just so crap I fail to sit through the first 20 minutes. After that though, it will be the second episode that will allow me to decide whether to blog something or not. Sometimes, even the third episode. I hate dropping shows, so this is why I will be extra cautious in choosing what to blog.

Hitohira Japanese Title: ???ら Probability of watching this: Above average From what I can tell, this is an anime about a shy girl, who is so timid sometimes that she loses the ability to speak to people. Despite this though, she is recruited into the drama club. From the picture, I can guess that the pink-haired girl on the left is the shy one. The promo looks promising, as the quality seems to be above average, but the quality of a short promo proves nothing (remember Yoakena?) And even if this turns out good, I’m not sure of my abilities at blogging school-life shows. |
![]() |
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Japanese Title: 天元?破グレンラガン Probability of watching this: Low This looks pretty old school to me, and I don’t really like the sound of this either. More so, it’s mecha, which seems to be in abundance this season. It’s not like I dislike mecha, but the truth is, most mecha are crap. The art style does not appeal to me, while the character design put me off quite a bit. It looks like some show designed specifically to entertain children, so the chances of me checking out the first episode are really low. |
![]() |
Ge ge ge no Kitarou Japanese Title: ゲゲゲ?鬼太郎 Probability of watching this: Very Low Just no. There is definitely no chance of me blogging or watching this remake of a 90’s children’s show. I also have no knowledge of this show, except that it looks crap. And if this somehow turns out good, I will be most shocked… |
![]() |
Hayate the Combat Butler Japanese Title: ?ヤテ????? Probability of watching this: Very High It’s pretty obvious that only those who’ve read the manga know how awesome this is, with a minority of those disliking it. Then there are the rest of you out there oblivious to how good the manga is, and so are forced to say that they will either check this show out due to the high anticipation, or reject it immediately to a seemingly crap premises. Hayate the Combat Butler is about a poor high school student (Hayate) who has been sold to the yakuza by his parents for his organs’ worth. In order to repay the debt though, he attempts to kidnap a girl, but ends up saving her from the yakuza. As repayment, the girl (who turns out to be rich) pays off his debt, and allows him to work as her butler to pay off his new debt, which he owes the girl. |
![]() |
Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS Japanese Title: 魔法少女リリカル???StrikerS Probability of watching this: High Well since the Nanoha series seems to be so popular, I guess I’ll try this one out as well. I haven’t seen any of the previous Nanoha series except the first episode of one, but I took it as a bit of a kids show, something like Sailor Moon, which I hear it is certainly not. Oh well, I guess I won’t know until I try, and this time more than one episode. Also, for those of you who don’t know, this series takes place 10 years after Nanoha A’s. |
![]() |
Heroic Age Japanese Title: ヒロイック・エイジ Probability of watching this: High I have no knowledge of this show, except that it looks really sweet, which immediately ups the chances of me watching and blogging this. It does seem to have mecha, but if it is used effectively with a well thought out and executed story, this should turn out pretty good. (The preview looks nice as well) Hopefully this will be a serous show as well, as usually sci-fi plus comedy, harem or ecchi just doesn’t work too well (for me). |
![]() |
sola
Japanese Title: sola Probability of watching this: High Apparently, the writers of Kanon and Da Capo did a joint job with this one, which puts it already in my good books. It looks pretty promising, in terms of the number of characters there are. Character design is nice as well. The story is pretty simple, and can even be explained with this following line: “boy meets girl”. Lol yeah, pretty generic, but that’s so common now it’s become the norm, and is not always bad. Sola seems to refer to ’sora’, which means sky. Sounds like one of those supernatural romances to me… |
![]() |
Seto no Hanayome Japanese Title: 瀬戸?花? Probability of watching this: Very High This is another manga to anime adaptation I am familiar with, and again I really like the manga. The character design style seems to have changed somewhat, and perhaps for the better. Seto no Hanayome is a comedy, and a good one at that. Story: A boy is saved from drowning by a mermaid, though by mermaid law, if a non-mermaid discovers the existence of mermaids, both the mermaid and the witness must be killed. However, a solution exists, and that is for the two to marry. Unfortunately, not everyone is too thrilled about this marriage. |
![]() |
Touka Gettan Japanese Title: Probability of watching this: Above Average The only thing I can tell is that this show is a romance anime (as discerned from the image), and I really love well-scripted romances (usually shoujo), though I have no idea how this will turn out. But, it looks good at least for now, so I will try it out if I get the chance. |
![]() |
El Cazador de la Bruja Japanese Title: エル カザド Probability of watching this: High I guess the only plot information you need to know is that there is a girl called Ellis, and she is on the run from an underground organization called ‘Hunters’. She is discovered by a bounty hunter called Nadi (who’s a girl as well, and I don’t know whether ‘Hunter’ and bounty hunter are the same thing), but instead of turning her in, she decides to help Ellis. Seems like an adventure story to me. And unfortunately I can’t seem to play the promo, so this is all I know. Character design looks good though, so I’ll probably give this show a go. |
![]() |
Idol Master Xenoglossia Japanese Title: アイドルマスター XENOGLOSSIA Probability of watching this: Below Average It looks to me like this is another attempt at merging mecha with moe in an aimless attempt to attract viewers, when this is really a show about singing…I think. Apparently, the mechas are used during simulation for when the girls (and guys?) train to become idols… Probability of watching this after seeing 1st ep: Very High Well after actually seeing it…I’m hooked. I know the high quality probably won’t stick, but just…yeah I’m hooked. Dunno why. Maybe because it’s Sunrise, and Sunrise shows aren’t bad at all. |
![]() |
Kissdum: Engage Planet Japanese Title: キスダム -ENGAGE planet- Probability of watching this: Above Average One thing I immediately noticed was that the logo looks a lot like the logo for Neon Genesis Evangelion. The premises seems to be similar in the militaristic sense, but it has to be radically different. Anyway, if this is about space and war, you know I will be definitely interested. It sure looks like a fun anime to me, with a large array of characters. But once again, I will never decide on something until I actually see the anime. |
![]() |
Claymore Japanese Title: クレイモア Probability of watching this: High Set in a fictional world where there exists demons, and those who exterminate demons called Claymores (who fuse with the demons to become powerful hybrids), this series is about a young female Claymore and her battles and struggle to hold on to her humanity. SOUNDS EPIC TO ME. I have high expectations of this show; not sure why, maybe it’s the concept of a girl kicking ass with a sword… |
![]() |
Over Drive Japanese Title: オー?ードライヴ Probability of watching this: Low One genre I’m not too fond of is sports. Well actually, it’s more like I’ve never really seen a sports anime and can’t be bothered to try one (that’s why it took a lot to get to watch Nodame Cantabile, which is about music). So therefore, I won’t be watching this at all unless it gets a lot of praise when it airs. |
![]() |
Oh Edo! Rocket Japanese Title: 大江戸ロケット Probability of watching this: Very Low Absolutely, definitely NOT watching this. The character designs put me off so much I don’t even care what this anime is about. |
![]() |
Saint Beast ~Kouin Jojoshi Tenshitan~ Japanese Title: セイント・ビースト ~光陰?事詩天使譚~ Probability of watching this: Very Low Another overly bishie/fantasy type shoujo show like Angelique? Well, I like shoujo anime and manga, but definitely not when it’s mixed with fantasy. Especially it becomes a bishounen anime. Anyway though, this happens to be the prequel of another anime called Saint Beast, and it doesn’t look like that one was received very well. So this has no chance! |
![]() |
Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo Japanese Title: ???空?約?を― Probability of watching this: Average According to Hung, this anime is about a small school with one guy student and five girls. It’s also a H-game conversion (certainly seems like it), so I guess this would be a harem. Only thing is, most harems suck…no I mean the real, haremy-type harems, that are all about the harem. Yeah…well, can’t help to try. The title means something like ‘The promise in the blue sky’ or something, but really, titles aren’t important lol. |
![]() |
Sisters of Wellber Japanese Title: ウエルベール?物語 Probability of watching this: Above Average A historical-setting anime about a princess who runs away after she is married off to a prince of a hostile kingdom to avoid war. The princess also manages to stab her fiancée before running off to neutral territory with a newly acquired female bodyguard. I guess these two girls are the ’sisters’…Anyway, sounds interesting, but I always have trouble with historical anime. I’ll see when it starts airing… |
![]() |
Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica Japanese Title: 神曲?界?リフォニカ Probability of watching this: Average From what I can tell, this is a romance anime about fairies…ok, so that immediately makes me think of the many poorly animated romance anime with crap storylines, so I don’t know about this one. The character design is appealing enough, but it really comes down to the quality of the animation and story. Apparently, this is adapted from a novel, so it should be decent at least. At least it’s only 12 episodes, as I have little confidence that it would be any good if it was two seasons in length. |
![]() |
Nagasarete Airantou Japanese Title: ???れ??蘭島 Probability of watching this: Very High Now this is what I’m talking about! A guy gets stranded on an island, but he finds that only girls inhabit the area! With no means of getting home, he is stuck on this |
![]() |
Romeo and Juliet Japanese Title: ロミオ × ジュリエット Probability of watching this: Very High Romeo and Juliet: the Animated Version! xD I am definitely looking forward to this, as I am highly curious as to how the anime version of this English play by Shakespeare will turn out. For those of you who don’t know, this is a love story about a teenage couple, Romeo and Juleit, who meet at a ball and fall instantly in love. I don’t really like the pacing of the story, but oh well, if that’s how it is, then so be it. But then again, I don’t know how much the anime will follow the original script. Another problem is, the seiyuus for Romeo and Juliet both seem to be highly inexperienced… |
![]() |
Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula Japanese Title: 機神大戦 ギガンティック・フォーミュラ Probability of watching this: Above Average Ok so the image up there makes it look pretty nice, but then again, it’s mecha, and mecha has seriously regressed to the stage where it is viewed mostly as crap. It would be nice if a good mecha show were to appear some time, and perhaps this will be it. The story line is just any other mecha-plot; humans discover some technology and suddenly wars are being fought with mechas. And it just so happens that a 13 and 14 year old boy and girl are fighting for Japan. |
![]() |
Koutetsushin Jeeg Japanese Title: 鋼鉄神ジーグ Probability of watching this: Very Low Remake? Sequel? Spinoff? Whatever the case, this is a definite must-not watch for me. There is no way I would watch something like this. You can just tell by the image. Well, that might be different for other people, but for me, the fact that this is a mecha as well…just no. |
![]() |
Darker than Black Japanese Title: Darker than BLACK - 黒?契約者 Probability of watching this: Above Average Essentially, this is an anime about people with powers. The preview also looks pretty cool and is of high quality, though it doesn’t really seem like me thing. I’m sure a lot of people are anticipating this quite highly, though not me. I will probably check it out due to the quality (Bones we’re talking about), but not sure about the rest. |
![]() |
Kousetsu Sangokushi Japanese Title: 鋼鉄三国志 Probability of watching this: Average Unfortunately, I have zilch on what this show is about. Looks like a historical anime to me, though the robotic arm throws me off quite a bit. It’s probably some fantasy Either way, it looks pretty cool so I’ll give it a shot. The production team isn’t exactly very big or famous, so I have doubts about this one. |
![]() |
Kamichama Karin Japanese Title: ???ゃ??りん Probability of watching this: Very High I’ve read some of the manga, and although I don’t find it that interesting, I love watching anime adaptations of manga anyways, and the moe factor definitely draws me in. However, a show like this probably won’t be good to blog, so I doubt I will. Anyway, Kamichama Karin, as the name suggests, is about a girl called Karin, who discovers she has a ring that gives her godly powers (essentially making her a goddess). If you don’t know, Kamichama is a play on the word kami-sama, which means god, only with a childish connotation. |
![]() |
Shining Tears X Wind Japanese Title: シャイニング・ティアーズ・クロス・ウィンド Probability of watching this: Very High It just goes to show how much I am influenced by visuals. Yep, this show just looks so cool! I’m already in love with the character designs. And there’s even a nekomimi! xD Animated by Studio Deen, I’m expecting solid animation quality. I just hope the story and premises is not as generic as hell. It would be such a depressing disappointment. |
![]() |
Kaze no Shoujo Emily Japanese Title: 風?少女エミリー Probability of watching this: Low Unfortunately, I really have no interest in an anime like this. The story just doesn’t seem to be for me, while the character designs, IMO, are pretty ugly. This anime is based on a novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery, and is about a girl who is sent to live with her relatives after her parents die. Essentially, it revolves around her life and the way she adjusts to her new way of living. |
![]() |
Seirei no Moribito Japanese Title: 精霊?守り人 Probability of watching this: Above Average It looks like this anime has been licensed…and it looks pretty cool too. All I can be bothered knowing about this show is that it’s a fantasy, and about fairies…Ok, so according to AniDB, there is a prince who is chosen to be deposited(?) by a water fairy, and must become the guardian of fairies. Through these revelations though, the king (father?) turns on him and tries to kill him, while the queen (mother?) tries to protect him. Ok whatever, the story isn’t important at this stage. All I know is that it looks pretty high quality, so I’ll give this anime a shot…if it gets subbed. |
![]() |
Saiunkoku Monogatari 2nd Season Japanese Title: 彩雲国物語 新シリーズ Probability of watching this: Low I’m sure those who liked the first season will be thrilled, but I, having never seen the first except for one episode, am not too keen on it. If I were to watch this, I would have to watch the first season as well, which is highly unlikely. So therefore, the chances of me watching or blogging this are near 0. And I believe there’s no need for a summary either… |
![]() |
Blue Dragon Japanese Title: ブルードラゴン Probability of watching this: Very Low Heard this is a shounen, and the age of the character I see seem to be way lower than acceptable levels of what I watch….lol. Character designs look horrible. Anyway, apart from that, I have no idea what this is about. I originally thought this was based on Blue Dragon RalGrado, but it seems it’s not. All in all, perhaps no chance of me even checking out the first episode of this series. It airs in the morning too, which obviously means it’s for all ages… |
![]() |
Lovely Complex Japanese Title: ラブ コン Probability of watching this: Very High Ahh, an anime based on a manga I started and never finished…guess this means I should finish it soon. And yes, I’ll most likely watch this, since I need my shoujo fix, which I haven’t gotten in a long time in anime form. The manga isn’t the best shoujo in my opinion, but it’s definitely watch-able. I tend to be more lax with shoujo shows than shounen as well. Lovely Complex is about an odd couple consisting of a short boy and a tall girl (who bicker a lot). You can guess the rest, being a school-based shoujo romance…Problem is, it’s by Toei…and I don’t really like Toei. |
![]() |
Terra e Japanese Title: 地?? Probability of watching this: Average Character design immediately says no, and for me, that’s more important than the storyline, since I don’t trust summaries at all. Otherwise, I would have never watched something like Suzumiya Haruhi…anyway, Terra e basically means ‘To Terra’, and is about humanity foolishly destroying their planet, building a new one and having it controlled by a super computer (gosh, this sounds like Dune). A new race emerges as well, called the Mu, and they wish to return to their original homes…or something like that. Sounds pretty good, but it’s the character design I’m disliking, and it feels like this is an anime that might drag on. |
![]() |
Lucky Star Japanese Title: ら?? ?? Probability of watching this: Very High This is one of my most anticipated series to air next month, as KyoAni is animating it. It seems to be a fun little slapstick comedy of sorts, as the anime is based on a yonkoma of the same name. I would read that, but apparently there are no scanlations beyond chapter 1. And also, the main character will be voiced by Hirano Aya! There really isn’t much of a summary to give, other than it’s about the life of this young girl. Moe and kawaii factors also increases anticipation of course. Oh, did I mention this is being done by Kyoto Animation? xD And surprisingly, it seems to be another double season length series by KyoAni…did their budget suddenly increase? |
![]() |
Bokurano Japanese Title: ???ら? Probability of watching this: Very High I’ve only read the first volume of the manga, and my thoughts are only average. However, the general consensus around is that the manga is mind blowing and radiates with sheer awesomeness…ok, maybe not that great, but still really good, which is enough to spike my interest. Bokurano is about a group of young kids who suddenly end up with control of a giant mecha-type organism, and must protect the world with it. Don’t be fooled though, this is not some kids’ version of Gundam Seed or anything like that. There will be death, angst, betrayal and the works! |
![]() |
Kaze no Stigma Japanese Title: 風?スティグマ Probability of watching this: High Hmm, red hair, fire, Shana anyone? Apparently the story is pretty different though, involving quarrelling within families and the inheritance of a special sword. Seems like the male lead comes back years after losing to the girl, and being banished for losing to the girl and failing to obtain the sword. But this time, he has come better prepared…This certainly sounds really interesting, and the character designs are pretty good. The red hair is always a plus. But, it’s by Gonzo…hmm, that does not bode well. |
![]() |
Ookiku Furikabutte Japanese Title: ??????振り???? Probability of watching this: Low Nup, not watching this. Sport + weird looking faces = definitely not for me. Basically, this is an anime about baseball. A guy likes baseball, but apparently, he sucks at pitching. When he gets into high school though, some faithful buddies help him shape up, and become the baseball team’s ticket to victory. Well, that’s what the manga is about at least, which is what this anime is based on. |
![]() |
Princess Resurrection Japanese Title: 怪物王女 Probability of watching this: Average Hmm, comedy AND horror? And it’s about a princess? Sounds good to me! Other than that I have no idea…It looks like it might be good, but shows that seem to be good often end up crap and corny. The character designs are decent, and hopefully there will be a range of characters as well. |
![]() |
Emma: A Victorian Romance Second Act Japanese Title: 英國戀物語エマ 第二幕 SECOND ACT Probability of watching this: Low This is the sequel to Emma: A Victorian Romance. Having never seen the first series, there is no way I will watch this. The words ‘victorian romance’ already put me off…even if this was a first series, chance of me watching this would be 0. But I don’t say 0, I just say low. The show is about a rich man falling in love with a maid in 19th century London, where their social status restricts their relationship. |
![]() |
The Skullman Japanese Title: スカルマン Probability of watching this: Below Average Looks like some cheap Spiderman rip-off somehow. Just not interested at all. It airs quite late in the month as well, and I probably won’t even touch it. It’s a typical guy gets superpowers from mad scientist kind of plot, and this time, the main character decides he wants to get revenge with his new found powers. |

w00t , mm if time allows , ill run to this post some to check out all the links.
And it certainly fixed your low posting ( with screens)
:D
The only thing I have to strongly disagree with is SaiMono 2nd season, since I’m a major SaiMono fanboy, but the rest of them are fine as far as I can tell.
Thanks for the preview.
Ge Ge Ge No Kitaro is actually based on a ground-breaking horror manga from the 60’s by Shigeru Mizuki.
I’m just about done with my own spring post but I only did those that I’m going to watch. The number is around 12 so far. lol
woah, nice preview! thanks danny!
This is going to be an awesome season…if Hayate, Airantou, and Seto no Hanayome are as good as the manga they’re based on they’ll be seriously awesome…

You know what I just saw on ANN, a TV-anime of Sky Girls o_O But it doesn’t say when it’ll air, and it’s not that this means it’s true, but it would be fun ^^

Well, about this season, I’m looking forward to Lucky Star, since it’s a KyoAni, and Bokurano, don’t know why, but the PV looks quite promissing.
OK, I can’t figure out which show the middle picture out of the first group is. Please help.
Bluestreak: I’m thinking it’s Claymore. Can’t see any armor though, so could be wrong.
I’m not seeing a whole lot in this list that screams out “Watch me!!!”, personally…
the middle picture is Seto no Hanayome
blue dragon is based on the xbox 360 video game
lo lall the shows you have as low I want to watch so badly especially Emma and the 2 sports anime, I guess I’m just way into boring stuff
I’ll definetely be watching Bokurano, I’ll give the other titles a shot as some looks very inetersting, others…. way to moe.
Thankyou, I was thinking about seeing that show, and that picture totally sold me.
Emma: A Victorian Romance Second Act

So that’s one more anime blog to not bother with.
makes me wonder why your name is nanoha…
why don’t you like sports anime?
Fishi, i’m not quite sure. I just don’t find sport anime very interesting, that’s all.
Lucky Star - because Kyo Ani has yet to fail me
Kaze no Stigma - Shana fan!
Darker than Black - because its dark and brooding
Claymore - Paladins FTW!
Seto no Hanayome - Mermaids fTW!
Sola - because I liked the trailer
El Cazador de la Bruja - my 40k army is Witch Hunters!
[…] Anyway, the new poll is probably something you’ll see in a lot of places. It asks you, which anime are you looking forward to the most this season. I did not include all of them, so as long as the ‘other’ option isn’t thrashing the other options, everything should be fine. Check out my spring preview for more details on the upcoming shows. […]

Wow, we’re so alike.
lol just thought i would check out Shining Tears X Wind cus it looks cool…apparently its based on a crappy PS2 game that was so crappy that it won the 2nd worst ps2 game of the year award…http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shining_Tears
just wondering tho - why isnt the anime of devil may cry isn’t in this preview? tho that may come under summer…
Shows I watched and liked enough to put on my download list:
Romeo x Juliet
Bokurano
Heroic Age
El Cazador de la Bruja
Claymore
sola
Darker than Black
Lucky Star
Shows I watched and didn’t like enough to continue:
Nagasarete Airantou
Hayate the Combat Butler
Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann
Kaze no Stigma
Koutetsu Sangokushi
Shows I haven’t watched yet but think I will like:
Kissdum - Engage Planet
Hitohira
Terra e
Shows I might try one episode of if I get really bored:
Seto no Hanayome
Shining Tears x Wind
Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo
Lovely Complex
The rest of them don’t really look like my thing.
I watch all of these.
Wow…I’m trying to finish watching most of these!
ゲゲゲ?鬼太郎 is actually originally a 1960s manga, not a 1990s kids show. While it is intended for a younger audience, and all are stand alone episodes, it’s what I’d call a classic, much like astro boy.
this sait is very very good…respeckt….
me encanta estas series es lo maccimo desde aqui les mandamos saludos a los creadores de anime que sigan asienfdolo son los mejores artentamente thailyn de venezuela tambien conocida como eimyinuyasha
Hmmm I’ll be sure to look into some of these anime. Thanks for the summary! I’m trying the first few episodes of Ookiku Furikabutte, at first I had serious doubts about this, I mean, wierd faces and I’m not into sports myself but after alot of recomendations, I tried and it’s actually quite good
are you a girl? dont you?
I LOVE SAIUNKOKU MONOGATARI!!!!!!!!!!!!
RYUUKI IS SO CUTE!!!!!!!
WAA I LOVE U! Lolz^ thanks for the tiping
WAA I LOVE U! Lolz^ thanks for the tiping
this is cool
“Just no. There is definitely no chance of me blogging or watching this remake of a 90’s children’s show. I also have no knowledge of this show, except that it looks crap. And if this somehow turns out good, I will be most shocked…”
Any Japanese that reads that will probably kill you, gegege no kitaro is one of the most succesful and loved shows in japan and is from the 60’s. There are remakes from the 80’s and 90’s and one of 2007, also a lot of movies including a live action one. It even has it’s own museum.
Dude, do some research
Hey, just because it’s popular, doesn’t mean I’ll change my mind at all. Stop being a conformist and watching popular shows–how bout being an individual for once.
Wow. thanks to posting this. I didn’t notice some of them. ^__^;
This helped a lot, but you don’t seem to be into shounen stuff. I guess I take your summaries seriously at all. It’s like…your bashing them. XD
