School Days: Episode 3

Rating: 7.3/10

Impressions:

I have to say that if anyone was somewhat bored after half of this episode due to the repetitively of things and no exciting plot twists, the final line of this episode would surely change their minds. I say this because I did become a little uninterested, Makoto’s ‘Dating Kotonoha is tiring’ would seem to mark a change in the progression of the story. Originally it has been mostly Makoto and Kotonoha, but being a single season series, we all knew Sekai would come into play soon enough. If I know anything about Sekai, I’d say she’d try and keep Makoto and Konohana together initially, but will soon and surely try and steal Makoto from her friend.

I wonder what Kotonoha sees in Makoto. He’s a little better this episode, though you can still tell he’s an idiot. His relationship with Kotonoha just doesn’t work out. There’s no chemistry at all as far as I can tell. Kotonoha looks like she’s forcing herself most of the time, though that could be due to her nervousness. Sekai tells Makoto to act naturally, though ‘naturally’ for him is utter failure. His eagerness to further his relationship with Kotonoha, probably by getting her in bed, is surely failing and this is most likely why he finds dating her a pain in the ass now. I feel sorry for Kotonoha when she’s asked about her boyfriend lol…

Speaking of the incident where Kotonoha is questioned about her boyfriend by her fellow student council members, it would seem that she’s even thinking to herself about how much of a dick Makoto is. Regardless of what Makoto does, Kotonoha never seems satisfied. While this I guess is not all Makoto’s fault, it does mean that their relationship will most likely fail. It seems likely that there’ll be a bad ending, which is something I’m really looking forward to. For now though, I think it would be pretty interesting if Makoto started two-timing with Kotonoha and Sekai.

I’m finding it hilarious how everyone hates Makoto, whereas usually male leads have a few sympathizers. I haven’t seen such unanimous hate since Shinji from NGE.

Danny: Many people say that it is Kotonoha’s fault when Makoto hug her inside the train. I think the entire episode is about how unsatisfied of Kotonoha because Makoto doesn’t call her by her first name. Makoto calls Kotonoha’s sister as Kororo-chan and Kotonoha also see how close between Makoto and Sekai during lunch break. So, Kotonoha will definitely doubt that why they are not close even though they are lover. Then, again I still not sure why she only kisses him on the cheek. Maybe it is because, in the train-station, they are too many people around in this episode unlike the last episode. That is why she is too embarrassed. Well, I’m still going to say that Makoto is a douche bag.

Actually I do not hate Makoto … a lot of “Makoto hate” is either game players or people that heard about the game ending and jump on the bandwagon.

And sorry but you are really not seeing all the train of events of the hug, Kotonoha is being dump all the work of the Student Council and when Makoto senses that he tries to comfort, she neither opens up or accept his attempt to comfort her … worst she clearly avoids him the next day, you are hanging up on the “he does not call me by my first name” to push all the fault into him.

You are correct in the first name but consider that it had to be her sister to bought that issue up and it was Makoto that pushed it further.

Kotonoha is too passive and simply resists communication … that is why Makoto is getting tired of dating since most effort so far have pretty much been his.

Makoto would be a douche bag if he was taking advantage of her (like the Student Council) but he is not, he is putting some effort in the relationship that ends up being resisted by Kotonoha, that is why he is tired since it likely feels for him that is a one-way relationship.

Drakron: You are right, but I still think Makoto could be more sensitive during the train event. Yes, I saw when the student council dumped all the work on Kotonoha and Makoto tried to comfort, but still he called her by her last name during the hug which made Kotonoha felt uneasy. In Japanese’s culture, calling by first name is show how close the two people are. Sorry if I hang up on the “first name” thing.

Also, people don’t like Makoto because he can’t think on his own. Why does he have to asking for an advice from Sekai every episode?

Because she’s the world? (Sorry, lame pun, I know). Makoto doesn’t really stand out to me…at all… his character’s just kind of boring. And the game… I’m still waiting for this series to turn into Higurashi. =P That would be hilarious. More likely, it’ll probably just end with a really generic ending.

Funny thing … in Love Hina Keitaro called Naru “Narusegawa” even after they married.

I know calling first names is a sign of being close but again they recently started dating (total strangers before that), he was already blown things by moving a bit too fast and how the hell is he supposed to know that is Kotonoha never express her thoughts? or how about he might consider that too fast since they only known each other for what? 2 weeks ago?

For the record, I’m actually a Shinji sympathizer (NGE) xD

In Ichigo 100%, Junpei calls Nishino by her last name even the last scence in the manga.
In Suzuka, Yamoto calls Suzuka by her last name while he calls every other girls (beside Miki) by their first name
In evangelion, Shinji calls Rei by her last name from the beginning until the end.
In Genshiken, Sasahara calls Ogiue by her last name even they are dating

Drakron: So, please don’t think that I don’t understand the problem here. I just don’t like Makoto’s personality and the way he acts, so I may lean toward to Kotonoha’s side more. The not call “first name” thing is just a part of conflict between Kotonoha and Makoto. Makoto seems to be more forward and simple mind while Kotonoha doesn’t like to express her feeling.

By the way, I actually enjoy having this discussion with you though.

XD So agree with you. I can’t really see what’s so good about this anime but I just want to know what kind of bad ending you are talking about.

By the way I think Kokoro is like identical to Kyon’s little sister >_

Sputnik: I’m not saying this is such a great show either. Hating the main character isn’t really gonna make me like the show more lol. I’m just following because of the popularity of it and the possible bad ending.

Actually Drakron is actually quite ryt “Kotonoha is too passive and simply resists communication … that is why Makoto is getting tired of dating since most effort so far have pretty much been his” and that is actually a very and likely point from wat ic from this episode and yes Makoto is somewat of a morron, he doesn’t know how to take care of his own relationship. HE PISSES ME OFF!!!

I totally agree with Nicole, Makoto isn’t excactly a saint to be honest. (But hey, who is?) He’s just a stupid messed up teenager who goes too fast once in a while. I know guys who are alot worse.

“MAKOTO NEEDS TO DIE? Well… I think that’s a bit exagurated. I mean is cheating enough to kill someone, I don’t think so. Death shouldn’t be used as a punishment for anything. (Except for maybe some serial killers etc.) I know you people will understand this if someone you know dies an non-natural death.

You just have to pity Kotonoha, she doesn’t have a clue what’s going on. But I think it’s for the best I think she would take it pretty hard IMO.

Personally I like Sekai the most, for some reason I can totally understand her. Think if this situation comes on you:

You have a huge crush on a guy/girl. The target of your crush instead likes another girl and you decide to hook em up becouse you want to get closer to the guy / you have a gentle helping nature. Then you happen to become good friends with the partner of your crush. Sometime later the crush tells you that he/she likes you. You try so hard not to have sexual contact with the crush becouse you don’t want to end up hurting your friend. But I bet for most people (If you really love the person) you end up with the crush. (Human instincts you see.)

So try to be understanding agains the characters, just think if the same situation happens to you.

The result of the conflict: Atleast one of the characters gets an broken heart. (Although I hope for and ending that is happy to everyone but after thinking it out I find that impossible :D Guess I’m being too optimistic.)
