Pumpkin Scissors: Episode 6

Impressions:
I really didn’t want to watch this episode. I sort of had an idea that this show wasn’t gonna get much more interesting, and I still the first episode was the best. Unfortunately, I am right since this episode has been mostly bullshit. I’m really tired now and I didn’t want to write this up until after Yoake (yes, I actually want to watch Yoake more than this), and it’s not even midnight yet…Okay, let me illustrate why this episode sucked so much. The whole story was screwed five times over and ended up being a big pile of filler-like crap that was probably the most boring episode I’ve seen this season. Not only that, it was stupid as well. The most important thing is Alice. That’s why the show bombed when her personality just went into overdrive and she finally showed how ignorant she is of the world. How can someone like her possibly think she’ll be able to solve the crisis of post-war? I liked her for her fiery attitude, but that should only be reserved for the battlefield. And since it seems like there’s not going to be much action soon, I was expecting some in-depth plot development, with some exploration of Orlando’s past and such. The quality isn’t helping either, since it’s only average. And once again, it doesn’t seem like anything interesting will be happening next episode either. I don’t care about Alice’s fiancée or whatever; I want to see some action, heavy plot, carefully plotted schemes and oppression. I thought that’s what the anime would be about – the Pumpkin Scissors doing whatever they can to prevent those things I listed above. That is why I decided to follow this series. Now it’s just turned into some half-hearted quarter-drama and not-so-slice-of-life with boring written all over it. The problem is this is likely to continue for some time before some sort of conspiracy happens.
Well anyway, the reason why I found this show to be stupid is because of how Alice views everyone else. I truly think the result of the baby-abandoning incident was extremely foolish. Alice believes that the mother is stupid for thinking that the baby is better off with the army. What’s worse yet is that the mother admits this too. Well let me say that being raised in the army/orphanage/foster house is MUCH better than struggling to survive with your helpless mother. And this is something I would definitely know, no arguments there. Next, Alice is too persistent. She’s also very uneducated when it comes to how the very society that she is trying to save works. I’m plenty of children would know that when people are poor, or when a community is poor, theft rate soars. “Is it right for a poor man to steal bread to feed his family?” This question is often asked of young children, and regardless of what the answer is, it means that they are aware such things happen to society when things don’t go right. Alice didn’t even know how much people were starving before some episodes ago, since she was raised as a princess. Her intentions are good but she just can’t do what she’s trying to do unless she gets some facts straight first. And the idea of arresting everyone at the market that she got when Oreld told her everyone was probably doing illegal things – that was preposterous. She might as well go arrest 50% of the population. How will the children feel then? People are flexible. Children are more so. I believe it’s quite easy for an INFANT to live without a mother, since he practically never had one to start with (yep, going back to that problem). Well, all I wanted to say is that the mother was right for what she did. Ok, so this is highly subjective, so that’s just what I strongly believe.

the quality, story and stuff tend to change alot and waver. Who knows, the next ep might be a comlete surprise and be really good
Just read the part about how you were raised in an orphanage/foster house. Well to me, what this means is that perhaps the writers should do research on just how TOUGH it is to live with a single, unemployed mother in a Post-War time. So instead of taking it for granted and painting a lacklustre happy ending, they should have actually asked someone like you who has experienced this kind of thing before translating it into the medium.
Okay, so the episode touches on some pretty heavy societal issues, poor children on the streets, people selling off illegal wares to make money etc. But as Rets said in his entry (and you mention it too), they need to start with killing some baddies and put Section III on the Imperial Hall of Fame. What they are doing is “compassionate” at best, but there are Bandits and Rogue Gundams out there that need to killed by Pandakun’s Massive Gun of Infinite Death.
About the next ep: Thats the start of the “Ball arc”.
As Sarevok put it in BG2: Lets kill something fast…
Indeed. I tried to milk as much goodness out of this episode as possible in my entry, but theres just no way. This was practically 100% filler and a bunch of nonsense. It also looks like it will continue on that path for awhile. I don’t know how long this series is, but if it’s short, they better start killing shit and saving the world, because it can’t be done sitting around. Oh well, it had it’s moments in the sun, namely its first few episodes, and now it’s slowly degrading. Hopefully they pick it back up before its too late and people get bored.
ehehe ^^; I’m sorry if you misinterpreted it but I wasn’t raised by a foster family or orphanage. But it’s similar…
these anime have gone under high degradation recently and I am dissapointed with the reduced animation and plot story. I really hope everything returns to what they were in episode 1 as that was what caught my attention in the first place. The manga I hae not read, but I find it is betetr to not be spoiled when watching a anime.
episode 7 is up and lot better, be sure to watch it
some action, and new interesting persona, coming with really surprising twist of narration at the end of episode
Ok, I’ll be looking forward to it.
