Pumpkin Scissors: Episode 5

Impressions:
I heard that there won’t be any tank battles for some time, which I think is a good thing as the mystery part of Pumpkin Scissors has become much more intriguing that its action aspect. The speech that Orlando gave while on the roof was meant to be a big hint to what his lantern does and how it works, but I still don’t really get it. Do his words prove that he needs the lantern to change his mental state or something, or maybe it’s something to do with his body? He implies that all the times he has killed before was due to the lantern, which also means he doesn’t have control over himself when he activates the lantern. But then again, it could also due to the orders given to him to kill, or something similar. Argh I am so confused. I hope the solution gets laid out in front of me soon so I can understand. Anyway, I though Orlando’s little speech was a bit out of character, and he said it right after meeting Wantz. I guess it goes to show Orlando’s caring side, and contrasts it from when he goes berserk. Oh yeah, did I mention there was a significant drop in quality?

And now, yes I have to mention it: the penis joke. First the nurse tries to get him to piss in some glass…thing, but finds that his penis is too big for it (watching her comparing was hilarious!) At the end of the episode, she manages to find an LL size (large-large I guess) one, but when she tries to fit it on, Orlando gets an erection and breaks the bottle. LMAO the nurse had such high hopes too! XD Her expressions before and after that were both priceless! Ah…such an unfitting joke for the series, but the entire episode was a bit out of place I think, so it doesn’t really matter. Hopefully, the next episode will have more purpose. Speaking of that, the purpose of this episode, to help Wants, wasn’t really resolved as we don’t find out what happens to him afterwards. I guess he could make another appearance later on, when he’s become successful and such. Another thing, Alice made a terribly short appearance this episode, which is such a shame since she’s by far the most interesting character to watch. However, she does show a lot of worry for Orlando, which is sweet. The move she pulled at the end was pretty cool too.

Plot Outline:
- Orlando gets scolded by Alice for leaving the hospital
- Alice tells him that she won’t be visiting him again and storms out
- Machs and Oreld also leave when the nurse tries to get them to get Orlando’s urine sample
- The nurse then tries to do it herself but finds that Orlando won’t fit in the jar
- At the library, Machs tries to find information on Orlando
- Oreld goes through some hidden information and discovers the name of a research institute which supported Orlando’s admission into the army (third division)
- That organisation is called: Kauplan Institute
- After exchanging information, both Oreld and Machs decide to ask Orlando themselves
- When they go to see him however, the guy sharing the same ward as Orlando – Wantz – goes missing

- He is spotted on the roof and everyone rushes up there (Orlando, Machs, Oreld and the nurse)
- Apparently Wantz was sacked for resting a week, even after working dawn to dusk for twenty years
- In the end, after expressing his regret for killing and desire to help, Orlando convinces Wantz to not jump
- However, Wantz slips, making Orlando run up to him to push him pack onto the roof
- At the same time, he falls but is caught by Machs and Oreld
- Even so, Orlando is too heavy so Wantz and the nurse grab Oreld and Machs, who were both about to be dragged over
- In the end, Alice comes to help and they all manage to get back up onto the roof
- However, the only person who noticed Alice was the nurse, but Alice has already retreated back into the hospital (to keep her promise not to visit Orlando)
- Elsewhere, division 3’s commander meets a woman, who introduces herself as the chief of the medical department of the Kauplan Institute ~ Muze Kauplan

I liked Alice’s sneak-save as well. Looking towards next episode. ^^
Let’s just hope the quality stays relatively high and not sink to depths which Welcome to the NHK managed to somehow do…
for a Paladin she has too much skill in hide and move silently…
(d@#$ed D&D mind attitude)
