Pumpkin Scissors: Episode 10

Rating: 7.5/10
Impressions:
Aww the intro is so misleading it almost made me cry. T_T I was getting excited about another tank battle, but it turns out it’s only a lead-in to the flashback that’s to come. Even so, the story regarding Section III’s past is not at all boring, though the animation makes Alice rather ugly, if I must say. The quality has been so low lately I can’t even tell whether it’s gotten any better or worse since last week. Thankfully though, it seems that the next episode, number 11, returns to the manga storyline and is actually of high quality! I can’t wait to see that. Hopefully there will be some action as well, as I’m getting rather thirsty for it. There’s no reason why Pumpkin Scissors can’t produce a good story with guns blazing and bloodshed. I don’t know why they fell into what seemed like a month or so of fillers. Perhaps the manga doesn’t have enough material to sustain a full double-season series. Oh well, either way, Pumpkin Scissors should become more popular again once the main plot resumes and the action kicks in.

It’s kind of strange to see Alice neglected and disliked when she joins Section III. As Retsgip mentions, I’m sure most of us are used to seeing Alice dominating everyone liked the tyrant she is,
so witnessing the time when she is considered an outcast is rather disturbing. Even so, her attitude would be detestable to someone like Oreld, who only joined the army for the guarantee of being fed, and fairly extreme for Machs, who wants to commit to a change, though with more easy-going ways than Alice. I for one would not want to be in the same room as Alice ever; she is far too naïve and annoying. I really can’t believe she never notices the resentment Machs and Oreld show her, or perhaps she knew that’s how she’d be treated and decided to just take it. She is strong-willed though, so that’s attributable as a good aspect. However, the main man here still should be Orlando, and any revelation to his past has been put off until now. Hopefully, when Pumpkin Scissors gets into his backgrounds, it won’t be a flashback episode like this, but rather ease into an ongoing flow of episodes.

I think I was pleased the episode started off so action-packed, it did manage to keep my interest in the beginning. Of course things slowed down to make way for the flashback affair. I think Pumpsis has had enough backstory development for now, with the flashback being the final foundation slab to be laid down by the writers. Admittedly, seeing Alice in ponytails and watching her try to blend into the company was the most entertaining bit…
more plot develops in ep.11, sub is out so get it asap! won’t spoiler here, because its fun to watch
