Macross Frontier: Episode 3

Well this episode is rather…uneventful. OK, that’s the wrong word to use, but honestly, it feels that way despite the progression of the story. I guess it just feels rather bland in comparison to the previous two episodes. Right now, Code Geass is better, but still, the high tech, epic feel of Macross F is quite awing. The problem is, I’m finding the story somewhat generic, which isn’t doing the show such a good favour. However, the high significance that is played on idols and music is quite endearing. There’s also a bit of a quality drop in this episode, but that doesn’t matter as much.

Hmm, this new filler arc may not turn out to be as boring as I thought. For one, it involves Soul Society, which means there won’t be any more retarded monster battles like in the Bounto arc, which is part of why I don’t like it. But then again, there’s also the question of quality and script. If they turn out to be above average, I will be highly pleased. But hmm, it seems like the producers are going to merge these fillers in with the events at Hueco Mundo to lengthen them out…so perhaps we will still follow the manga storyline. But they’ll need to put Ichigo back to the real world soon, since it seems like he has a rather large role in all the new events that are to occur.

Wow. I haven’t posted Macross F ep 3 yet, but I HAVE seen it, and I can definitely say Code Geass is in the lead again. This episode gives a nice change to the constant mecha fighting we’ve seen in the first season, as we follow Lelouch in his plans to thwart Rolo and the opposition forces. It was highly entertaining and interesting watching such a personalisation of Lelouch, as we see him interact with other people a lot more than usual. Thus, I certainly like the direction this new season is taking. Now we’ll have to see how Lelouch gets out of this situation, though I think it’s made obvious that the explosion will save the day…

Face it, the shipwreck has already happened. This episode is quite mediocre, at least when compared to the previous episode. And now we’re going to be shown fillers for the next 60 or so episodes, seeing as how the anime is on the manga’s door step. Unless, the producers decide to reduce the pace of the anime to 1:1 anime:manga ration, which basically means 1 chapter of manga = 1 episode of anime. This is exactly what they’ve done with Naruto, or was the last time I checked. Hmm. But in any case, the fillers might actually turn out good! As for this episode though, I don’t think so.

Sorry for this rather late post, I’ll try to keep more up to date with this show in the future. With that said, I must say, I haven’t really seen much this season, so it’s likely that I won’t blog anything apart from this and Code Geass. There’s also Bleach, and some time in the future I hope to resume my D.Gray-man and Naruto blogging. One reason, aside from my busier schedule these days, for my lack of blogging, is my lack of interest in a number of the new shows this season. It’s quite sad but hardly anything is being subbed speedily as well, which puts me off trying to follow them as well.

Rating: 8.5/10 (sorry, it went down after the initial excitement eased…xD)

With a tremendous start to the second season, this second episode follows up with fitting pace and brings back the same sense of Geass awesomeness that the first season has. Zero is back, and his asskicking abilities have returned with him. Already, new twists are occurring, such as Rolo and his hit-list, which unsurprisingly has Zero on it, as well as the Emperor having a Geass himself. Then there are the new group of likely antagonists, the whatchamacallit Knights that Suzaku has joined. Seriously, I still find him quite annoying, but I guess they need a primary antagonistic prick somewhere at any given time. xD

Wow. I’m impressed. I knew that, being the major fight of this arc (equivalent to Ichigo vs Byakuya), this battle would be animated at a higher standard, though the animation has impressed me even more so. I do have to complain about how overpowered all the characters are now…seriously. Despite this being a large factor in determining how entertaining the fight is, it’s just become too far fetched. A good thing is that they didn’t screw up the episode by cutting from scene to scene with different characters (namely Ishida and Renji). Inoue’s little spotlight at the end is quite sweet, though highly shounen-ish. Anyway, let’s hope the next episode follows up nicely.

Rating: 8/10
Overall Series Rating: 7.5/10
Impressions:
All in all, the first season is a lot more impressive. Shana II isn’t necessarily not as good as the first series, save for the simple fact that the first season impresses, and this does not (to me of course). Shana II is far too much like its predecessor, hardly seeming like a second season at all. I probably would have had a lot more interest in the series if this played straight after the first 24 episodes. In any case though, m overall view of Shana hasn’t changed much, and if a third season comes out (which I assume will, due to the lack of closure in this season), I’ll still be sure to watch it.
