Ookami to Koushinryou: Episode 2

Rating: 7.5/10

Impressions:

In my opinion, one of the better shows of the current season—Ookami to Koushinryou manages to hold my attention and with minimal quality drop, which was expected anyway. This second episode makes me think that the show doesn’t really need any concrete goal to work towards, or some outlandish plot to keep suspense, as it functions more like a comedy and/or feel-good show. The random happenings or character development itself is supposed to hold the audience’s attention. I find it highly enjoyable just listening to Horo and Lawrence converse, and the growth of their personalities. Horo herself would keep me watching the show though.

So that means I believe that this show isn’t really going to feature an engaging storyline, nor present many gory action scenes, so if you’re looking for this show to become ‘better’, I would advise you to look elsewhere. Of course, there’s still the supposed ‘trouble with the church’ that has yet to be introduced, which could make for some drastic changes in the show’s style, but I doubt it. As for me though, I really like it the way it is now. Horo especially entertains me, due to her playful and light nature, but with a fragile and perhaps more serious side to her as well, which will account for any interesting mishaps that will surely happen to her in the future.

A lot of people are saying they see Lelouch and CC in Lawrence and Horo, which is likely to happen, though for me, I can only really identify Lelouch in Lawrence, and not CC. She never really talks enough in Code Geass—well, not enough for me to have a clear recording of her voice, and the peculiar way Horo speaks makes it harder to make a connection as well. But anyway, what I’m getting at is that it’s no problem for me, hearing the two together like that. I actually like Lawrence’s voice quite a bit, finding it suiting for his character. On the other hand, while the same voice suits Zero greatly, it doesn’t really fit the high school image of Lelouch very much.

Geass would be really convenient in economics and barter. :P

One of the things I think when I watch the show is: What does Lawrence actually want? I mean, he is a merchant seeking profit for sure, but I’m willing to wager that isn’t what he really wants. He strikes me as a man just going through the motions, living his life day to day, someone avoiding deeper meaning. In which case Horo may just be the perfect companion to snap him out of it. Well, anyway, time will tell. The show is damn good though.

Leon: hahaha, but i would rather have horo than geass ;-)

JasonP: yes thats true, but it looks like theyre focusing on what horo wants at the moment. lawrence’s true character will probably emerge as things go along

Horo is Kallen’s VA (Ami Koshimizu), not CC. She has an amazing voice range and I love the weird speech pattern she uses for Horo.
