Naruto ~ Shippuden: Episodes 6 & 7

Rating: 7.8/10

Impressions:

The one major reason I am being extremely put off from watching this show is the crazy slow pace. Only one chapter is covered over these two episodes. That’s just insanely bad if you ask me. Everything is dragged on so much it makes me want to just skip a few scenes every two minutes. Amazingly, if Naruto Shippuden manages to cover only half a chapter each episode, it will never catch up to the manga. But by doing this, it will probably destroy its fanbase. I would much rather just read the manga; the images look better and the pace would obviously be faster.

I was disappointed and shocked at the same time to see how strong the Akatsuki guys are. Defeating all those Anbu with no trouble at all? The power differences between everyone is still pretty over the top. After more than 200 episodes of Naruto, Naruto himself is not a Jounin OR a Chuunin yet? So what, it’s gonna take another 200 episodes before he actually becomes a match for the ‘real’ shinobis? Judging by the pace of Shippuden, it might take twice as long. It will definitely be more interesting when the anime gets to the parts of the manga where Naruto and Sakura actually become useful…

It’s been made clear several times in the series that ranks don’t really mean anything. Naruto and Sasuke are still both Genin and they’re two of the more powerful characters in the series. Kabuto’s a Genin yet he’s on the same level as Kakashi. Ranks are just names; they don’t necessarily reflect a character’s power level.

Anyway, I agree about the pacing for these episodes, but things have sped up a bit recently. Episode 12 covered about 1 1/3 chaptes, which doesn’t seem like much but it’s still the most manga material covered in a single episode so far. More often than not, the filler’s pretty good/relevant to the plot, so I don’t mind it so much.

Geg, Naruto’s not nearl as powerful as I hoped he was after training with Jiraiya (I DO read the manga). Sure, ranks don’t denote much, but that wasn’t the point of what I said. I’m just disappointed at the little things such as how even when Naruto spawns like hundreds of himself, all of them get defeated anyway.

Yeah, well that’s always been the case with his bunshins. The true power of his bunshins isn’t it direct attacks but actually in surprising people with them. He’s good and kagebunshin and henge, which allow him to be very creative.
