Nagasarete Airantou: Episode 10

Rating: 9.7/10

Impressions:

This is unsurprisingly one of my favourite episodes so far. I had been impressed by the character development that this part of the story contains when I read the manga, and am equally impressed that the producers managed to make a good story out of it. Of course, some things were changed as usual, but the general point of the story is easily maintained. It’s pretty nice to see Suzu surrounded by all her friends, especially as she expresses quite a bit of loneliness unintentionally. She must be appreciating Ikuto’s company a lot at the moment, even if she has yet to develop any romantic feelings for him.

In the manga, Ayane, Machi and the others actually decide to go to Suzu’s house, as it is the usual thing to do on a rainy day. They even explain this to Ikuto, which puts him at ease (since he worries about Suzu being alone prior to this). However, in the manga, everyone simply happens to show up at Suzu’s place, which is not nearly as successful in drafting the ideas of not being alone that Ikuto gets. Surprisingly, the stripping scene at the end is actually exaggerated in the anime, whereas you would think the producers would more likely censor it—not that I’m complaining of course…

For me, one of the great things about anime is the beauty it can capture which eludes live action. Suzu’s rainy day song, and the accompanying memory sequence is just such an example. Really good stuff, and a nice contrast to the comedy feel of the show at large.

JasonP: I think both mediums have a lot of things that the other can’t achieve, which is why I like them both.

    Furuba: wouldn’t we all…? :-)

While watching all of the episodes and following the story, I particularly fell in love with it especially this episode. Sweetest thing from an anime I’ve ever seen. Suzu’s isolation overshadowed by Ikuto as well as her friends. The beautiful song that her sweet mother used to sing as well as the flashback and the scene where Ikuto and Suzu were in traditional Japanese wedding outfits. I’ve actually cried from watching this but hey what other human being wouldn’t. I love how they took the romance to that level where it can please everyone even give the audience a sense of happiness.
