Impressions:

Beginning with good quality and an interesting story, Mushi-Uta has captured my interest at once. I had been interested in it since I researched it, but I had learned not to make high expectations for anything I haven’t seen before, so I kept my anticipation low. But I found myself loving this episode as I watched it. It has the appeal of action and blood from the mysterious battle between the Preservation Bureau and the Mushibane, as well as the nice and squishy feeling that you I get from the school life scenes. I just need to watch the next episode to be sure of this…Mushi-Uta is only 12 episodes as well…

Already, it looks like there’s something going on between Daisuke of the Preservation Bureau and Rina of the Mushibane. And of course, the mysterious green haired girl who Daisuke leads us to believe had been shot by him, comes back in the end. I have no idea where this show will go, but the mysteriousness alone is enough to make me keep watching. Daisuke changes an awful lot when he switches to becoming a normal guy as well, which is both useful and creepy. In any case, I just hope that the subs keep up as well. So far, there seem to be two subbers which are doing a reliable job, and I hope they don’t stop.

This first episode is absolutely fantastic. The second not so much, but I’m still really interested to see where this is going. Shows based on light novels tend to have great stories, so my hopes for this is pretty high.

Sounds good. I’m waiting for a good sub to come out for this show.
Before even watching it, like Lupus said, shows which are based on light novels usually give this felling of a deeper plot and quality than shows which aren’t based on light novels.
On another note, why are we seeing this season a lot of 12-13 episode shows? budget issues or simply becuase the content is only sufficient for 12-13 episodes? I know a couple of a good 12-13 shows, but in terms of story and characters development, you can’t match a full 24-26 episode show.

BUGS POWER! I’ve only seen the 1st episode, seems a little confusing but I am already hooked.

I can totally see a love triangle form. Why it’s only 12 episodes is beyond me, though. With a story like this, it looks like it could go pretty far and be 26 episodes.

Lupus: yeah I’ve already seen the second episode, and I agree it’s not as good as the first, but the kind of emotional and psychological ideas it presents, regardless of how insigficant or small, are usually to my liking

arcanes: spring and autumn are the two main anime seasons, featuring mostly 24-26 episode series. Summer and winter are kinda like interlude seasons and usually only add 12-13 episode series to the spring/autumn season that precedes it, so that the majority of shows will finish before the start of a new spring/autumn season

Runningkid: was that with or without subs? I didn’t find it very confusing after watching the sub, but maybe that’s because I read the article on ANN

W.H: yeah love triangles FTW! I think it’s better that its only 12 episodes, as the pacing and quality should remain nice and solid.

After 4 episodes marked by bad dialogue and a plot that is hard to follow, I am giving up on this series. The series summary for Mushi-Uta that I read on animenfo.com raised my hopes; it had all the makings for a good series. Nice character design, a good plot. Unfortunately, it is marred by horrible story-telling, and unfathomable scenes or points in the storyline where we are left to guess and wonder at what’s going on. I want a good story, clearly spelled out, easy to follow, with great action and great dialogue. Mushi-Uta is muddy and confusing. It is the opposite of crystal clear. It is not what I look for in a favorite anime. Mushi-Uta is very forgettable. It will go down as another series that could have been so much better, leaving the viewers disappointed.

[…] A hint of what to expect comes from the “Mushi-Uta Relationship Chart” (see Episode 00) provided by AnimeOmake fansubs, which acts as a handy reference to keep track of the various characters' attitudes towards each other (I wish more shows would provide these!). It's not everyday that I get such a good vibe from a new series as I have from Mushi-Uta, and even less often that the same good vibe is steadily maintained throughout additional episodes. Really, I appreciate the way that this show makes figuring out the clues neither too hard nor too easy–it's a perfect balance between the two extremes, either one of which can easily ruin a series.

I was the one who made the comment about the Relationship Chart in my review at the anime.mikomi.org website, and I’ve just completed an anime version of the same, in case anyone is interested (plus episode reviews–I love this show that much!). See: [http://anime.mikomi.org/episode/1652/00.html]. I had assumed Mushi-Uta was originally a manga, but apparently it was a light novel?
