Manabi Straight! Episode 5

Rating: 8.6/10

Impressions:

This series is only so-so for me now. As for many series, the initial surprise element of this show (which refers to the awesomely drawn characters and high quality) has nearly all but disappeared. I still like this more than Otoboku, but comparing it to Suzumiya Haruhi is just impossible for me to do. Anyway though, it really does look like the festival will be the ultimate goal to achieve. Hopefully through this, there will be enough uniqueness to each episode as opposed to ‘come across obstacle, think for whole episode, overcome obstacle’. The problems begin when the actions taken are similar each episode…

The fact that Momo is still a side character is killing me. I almost cried because she only makes some random appearances, and a tiny role when dressed in a hazard suit. That’s just sad. I demand more Momoha! Mei, Mika, Manabi…they all appear quite a lot, while Mutsuki and Momo are still absent a lot of the time. I hope Momoha gets recruited to the school council or something next, she definitely MUST be a main character, even if she provides nothing for the council apart from a room decoration. Both Mutsuki and Mei and meh because I don’t like their character designs at all. And yeah I know a lot of people disagree with me…

Personally, I love this series. But I definitely do not compare it with Suzumiya Haruhi. That was something special. Otoboku? Enjoyable, but not the equal of this show, at least so far. Yes, the episodes are repetitive in a way, but it is a way that produces a wonderful emotional reaction for me, and gives great feelings of the characters. I mean, it’s hard to say the show is repetitive when we have one whole episode here without the main character. I’d rather say that the show stays true to its themes, which are the growth of feelings among friends, and the enlivening of dead worlds. Some people apparently think this show is shallow. I think it’s hard to say that about a show whose themes are so deep.

Yeah, I love this series too. I started to watch this series after I read Danny’s post. Thanks… It looks childish at first but it turned out to be very entertaining. All the characters is cute too. However, my favorite’s character would be Mei-chan. Manabi and the rest is just ok. I’m expecting a lot from this show. I only watch until episode 3. I’m downloading all the fansubs version to see which is better. I think Eclipse-gg is the best at the moment. Never tries the one from Ryo yet…
