Impressions:
Wow, I haven’t seen a Macross series before, so I’m pretty stunned. I’m sure you can’t compare old series with new ones in terms of production value, but it looks to me like the Macross series had always been a step above the rest. If I were to compare this with Gunda,, or more specifically, the first episode of Gundam 00, Macross Frontier wins hands down. From the quality (awesome 3D too) to the execution, this episode feels exactly like a movie—the jumpiness, lack of explanations, scene-shifting and the ‘verge-of-disaster’ feeling you get are all employed by movies. Explanations come later, when the initial excitement is over. Well that’s what I felt from watching this episode.
Set as a sequel to Macross 7 and the OAV, Macross F follows a different colony ship, and expectedly, a new set of characters. For starters, the main character seemed to be the typical ‘rival’ character in many shows, but it turned out that he’ll be the star of things (if I’m not mistaken). The girl seems to have quite a fun and easy going personality, so nothing to complain about that. On the hand, the pop singer, Sheryl, bothers me with her attitude (and the fact that she’s famous…is this really an anime??) As I haven’t seen the previous Macross seasons, I would have no idea, but from what I’ve read, it seems that song idols like her are an important part to the show…Hm.
Well anyway, I believe this show starts for real in spring 2008 (which should be somewhere around April). First episodes always manage to fool me, so I’m not going to explain any expectations I have, but I’ll be sure to check out the second episode. Code Geass’s sequel also begins at that time, but in actual fact, I’m not that eager to see it. The new character will surely be interesting, and I can imagine some family grief if he and Lelouch ever meet (if he’s alive I guess), but personally, I wanted to see Lelouch keep his role as lead. Oh well, hopefully the sequel will be just as good as the first season anyway. Btw, please vote in the poll to the right!! xD

This makes me feel all tingly inside. I’ve been a Macross fan since I was in primary-junior high!
Told ya
I hope episode 2 will have the same quality..
better than code geass??? hmm this sounds promising…
Well, this Macross F has a very good quality, actually! The story-line and all were simply great, i do want to watch the 2nd ep. But GEASS is still the most anticipated anime of spring 2008 for me!! XD
I really liked this a lot. I hope it lives up to all the hype.
Leon: wow, you must be pleased then
Scoro: you told me yes, but i never said i didn’t believe you
acegunner: you should definitely check it out. I cant say its better than code geass since its only the first episode, but that only is certainly worth a look
Sunohara!: im not even sure what my most anticipated show of 2008 is…maybe Suzumiya Haruhi if it comes out in autumn 2008
AirbrushMercenary: yeah, first episodes have a habit of draining the entire budget of certain series. Hopefully with such a large name, Macross F won’t be another one of those failures
Anyone know when the 2nd episode will be airing?
When will episode two be out… anyone know ?
this episode was just aired as a special/preview. the show should officially start in april 2008
can’t wait for 2nd ep
Indeed, the Macross has always been ’something special’ in the deep heart of everyone (those that have seen it). I’m not a robot anime fan, but the Macross is much more to the interaction of men rather than fighting and kill anyone other than your kind. The storyline is so inspiring that you’d be amazed on how this people can think of something like this. I’ve been watching the Macross since first version until the Macross Zero. It’s so happy to see that they are still continuing the franchise. I’m definitely looking into it.
