Lucky Star: Episode 6

Impressions:

Kyoto Animation has done it once again, creating an episode with awesome hilarity, high quality and the natural feel of Lucky Star that we (or I) totally love. While this episode is my favourite so far, I feel it was probably pulled past all of the previous episodes with the beach/bath scenes and inclusion of more characters than usual. If you don’t know, I have this thing with the number of characters in a show (the more the better…WAY better). The jokes are refreshing and hilarious as well, incorporating many parodies once again. The most obvious one was the Initial D parody, which easily cracked me up.

I mentioned just now that there’s a boost in quality, and I have also mentioned before (in a previous post) that Lucky Star is not the type of show that needs high quality. However, after seeing what KyoAni is capable of doing with Lucky Star, I feel that every episode from now on should be of at least an equal level in quality. Of course, there’s no need for Kanon or Haruhi levels, but this episode feels so much better with the gradients and soft lighting effects. Oh and this doesn’t really have anything to do with the episode, but my next banner will definitely be a Lucky Star one. xD

    That episode was definitely by far the best Lucky Star episode so far. It parodied so many things it was absolutely hilarious. That Timotei ad one was pure genius. Reminded me of the times me and my friends parodied ads aimed at less intelligent people.

    Initial D parody. Genius lol. Even the music!! hahaha~
    Also loved the part when Konota places the soap behind Miyuki omg lol~ they way she like “walks” up to her, *plants* walks back the same way and jumps back into bath was soooo funny!
    also when tsukasa was lsitening to the shell? tat was weird XD but when that centipede or w/e came out, omg didn’t expect that. couldn’t stop laughing

    I have to say that this show is getting better by the second. I still haven’t recovered from the initial d sequence. Even the bystanders drawn in the exact same style and using the same reference material was just genius. Do any of you know what cousin yui’s car license plate said? Not sure if the original video was censored like the version I saw.

    Did you guys notice that she’s actually driving at 40km/h which if I’m not mistaken is only 25 mph, the poor video quality, the finger tapping on the steering wheel… omg, I have to watch it again, lol!!!

    this show seems to be getting better with each one passing the one before it. And like everyone I do agree that the Initial D parody was truly a genius one,hahaha. I couldn’t stop laughing to see that creature/ insect pop out of the sea-shell.
    hope the next one is simple and yet funny as the others…. loving this show A+++.

    The license plate was already blurred so I don’t think anyone knows what it says.

    It was yellow, which is the color of license plate for k-cars (basically small compact cars) in Japan.

    They pretty much nailed everything about Initial D in that parody

    - drawing style
    - the substandard CGI (noticed how the trees were just flat sprites? lol)
    - the cup filled with water (those who know initial D know what this references)
    - using the gutter drift
    - the bystanders (who do look eerily similar to Takumi and Iketani) commentating in some random area in the bushes

    comedic genius

    Well, I think that the part where Konata is talking is also a parody of initial D too, well, at least i remembered that part from the real life version initial D movie.
