Lucky Star: Episode 20

Impressions:
Technically, Lucky Star has finished, though A.F.K. has been stalled in the subbing of the series, which is quite frustrating for me as I don’t want to waste my bandwidth getting a different subber. I’ll see how it goes though—I’m trying to finish everything up before the new season starts, as well as write the Autumn preview. Anyway, I dunno why—maybe it’s because I haven’t watched Lukcy Star in the while—but I really liked this episode. The jokes suddenly seem a lot stronger, although it does mean I relate to them less. At least, I for one have never collected trading cards, or anything similar.

I haven’t seen anything come out of AFK in weeks now. Guerrand is good enough for the time being, especially as far as Lucky Star goes considering it’s not the most high-level Japanese to begin with.
I think this episode has the last of the obnoxious Haruhi references what with that drink commercial (besides ep 24), luckily. None of Lucky Star’s *intended* audience would care, of course, since it’s generally “Japanese anime fans,” but I’m not part of that demographic (despite understanding the references..) so I’m glad the next few episodes have a bit more “universal” humor in them.
Does it really make much different to have different subber? I have only see some bad subbers from the series like Naruto or Bleach, but, to me, all the subbers for the Lucky Star seem to be pretty decent and consistent.

Pani Poni Dash was one that had some terrible subbers, one group, who i’ve since forgotten, made sure to explain every reference, while another didn’t bother even subbing the scrolling text on the top of the screen.
I personally prefer A.F.K.’s over guerrand’s, just my preference, kind of how I chose Lunar for Ouran High School Host Club
Maybe it takes a long time to sub because of all the reference for clarification of all the jokes in the Lucky Star. That’s why it takes so long for Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei to be subbed.
kenshin514, I’m not absolutely sure yet, as I haven’t actually seen any of the upcoming shows, though the ones I am currently considering are: Shana, Gundam 00, Minami-ke, ef - a tale of memories, CLANNAD, Genshiken, Bamboo Blade. However, it is impossible for me to blog all of them, I’ll be choosing maybe 4 to blog, since I really don’t have enough time anymore.
