Lucky Star: Episode 16

Rating: 8/10

Impressions:

Hmm, the Konata-Haruhi transformation made me grin so badly it hurt. The entire Suzumiya Haruhi reference makes this episode a special feature for all those Haruhiists out there, including me. I’m pretty sure they got the real Tomokazu Sugita for Kyon, and Nagato’s voice seems genuine as well. Mikuru unfortunately did not get her real seiyuu (unless her real seiyuu decided to talk differently). Anyway though, watching Kona-chan with her hair like Haruhi, and with Hirano Aya putting on her awesome Haruhi voice and tone, I could not help but feel the same vibes I get from the real thing, even if it’s only for the few seconds that this occurs.

OMG way cool. If only BitTorrent could go faster… I’m trying to get this episode right now, while evading those Witch Hunter Robins at Odex. :P

There is just a bit too much Haruhi this time around… considering it’s the highlight of the episode, and isn’t funny as a standalone piece, it really requires familiarity with Haruhi Suzumiya for the episode to be fully appreciated. I’m not sure I like that about it. If I wanted friends to see this show, I’d have to tell them to watch an episode of Haruhi first.

That, coupled with the Haruhi references they’ve started putting *all over the place* is really turning this show into a complete sellout. Imagine if Futurama was so saturated with Simpsons references… I find it all to be a little lame, to be quite honest.

Hey, you forgot the super show of Akira in that Karaoke xD. Leaving Aside the references to Suzumiya, that was the best part of this Ep.

I feel like this episode is tried to promote the second of haruhi. My favorite part was the Konata-Haruhi transformation. I laugh my ass off on that part.

Maybe ya all are right but don’t forget they made the show for japanese it’s not supposed for you refugees to watch, and in japan nearly every teen that watches anime know of haruhi suzumiya.

@tommykn — while that may be very true, it doesn’t invalidate my analogy to Futurama/Simpsons. Everyone who watched Futurama knew Simpsons for sure, but that doesn’t mean they should have put tons of blatant Simpsons references *everywhere* and I’d say most folks are glad they didn’t.

Basically Lucky Star is starting to lose a bit of its appeal for me. There’s less and less *actual humor* and more and more referencial humor as far as I can tell.

I believe ‘our’ views of the Simpsons and Futurama are a lot different to ‘their’ views of Haruhi and Lucky Star. I think I’m leaning more to ‘their’ side since I love the Haruhi references, and am sure a lot do.
