Drakron: Yes, but every girl has two endings. The question, therefore, is which KyoAni are going to choose to end Shiori's arc...

SPOILERS

The ending in which she lives, or in which she dies? My money is on the former.

I have not looked at any of the spoilers above (I even missed the fake one), and know nothing about the 2002 version nor the game, so what follows is complete spoiler-free eculation.

I have to say that the way Kaori is treating Shiori is awfully reminiscent of the way Sayuri treated her little brother when he was ill, and the denoument will probably be similar to the way that flashback ended. It seems to be a theme throughout this series: Seize the moment and treat everyone as if you'll never have a chance to make it up to them, because one day you won't. I have no doubt Kaori will learn this lesson; the question is whether it will be before or after her sister dies. We have already had two miracles so far this series, but I think to have another one happen in this case will cheapen the storyline.

Tim, they are doing the girls endings of the game ... with a few adaptations because it ... well ... the game naturally ended at that point.

Also:

Very mild spoiler over characters arcs
<spoiler>
Also, Kaori is NOT one of Yuichi harem members, she is a supporting cast of Shiori plot arc ... they are already getting short of time to animate the remaining 2 arcs.
</spoiler>

And yes, Hinano is doing spoilers because she is comparing this remake with the original version and the game ... you think if NGE had a remake we would not going to spoil things when we noticed diferences?

which brings me to a question... is Shiori or Kaori the one who needs Yuichi's protection? Shiori looks like she accepts her fate without regret, while Kaori is desperte to separte herself from tragic reality...

I would have to disagree, Danny, and say I would be very surprised if Shiori did _not_ survive. Why?

<spoiler>In animating both Mai and Makoto's respective stories, KyoAni decided to adhere to the 'happy' game outcomes (believe it or not, those were Mai and Makoto's happy endings). This makes Ayu almost certain to get her 'happy' ending as well (her sad conclusion would be fundamentally at odds with the spirit and tone of the anime thus far, and would be inconclusive besides, since it would leave Yuuichi hanging), which would leave Shiori as the only girl really to not be provided with a happy conclusion (Nayuki does not count, as the nature of her in-game story necessitates a virtual rewrite given the structure of the anime).

More pertinently, Shiori's comment about miracles not happening is meant to be ironic; the central truth to be observed from Kanon is that miracles do happen when enough desire is involved in creating them. Ayu falls from a tree and ends up in a coma, but her intense love for Yuuichi leads to her continued conscious existence in the city of snow, Makoto's desire to see Yuuichi again allows her to become incarnated in human form, Mai's desire to keep Yuuichi close to her spawns a horde of demons. Shiori's good ending involves a similar occurence saving her from death - her reconciliation with Kaori, and subsequent recognition that the two share the same dream, coupled with her newfound relationship with Yuuichi, leads her to shift fundamentally from desiring death (the infamous boxcutter scene) to wishing for life.</spoiler>

Yeah that's true, her attitude is probley like "why should I care for Shiori and everything if she's just going to dissapear" It's logical in a way but I disagree with what she's doing because it causes Shiori alot of pain. lol I think in Hanbun the same subject came up and Yuiichi from Hanbun choose to do the opposite thing Kaori from Kanon is doing.

I have to disagree with ya about Kaori. I know it looks like she is an uncaring wench, but its just an act. Her melt down last week in front of Yuuichi and when she was alone in this week's episode just show me that she's trying to protect herself from the loss. Granted, she's going about this whole thing the wrong way, but I can understand her trying to avoid the pain.
