Kanon: Episode 15

Holy shit, chibi Mai is by far the cutest of all the young versions of the girls in this show. Too bad she turned out to be the opposite as she got older. Seriously, this episode makes me think that the girls should just stay small. The Mai arc would be so much better if Mai herself has her hair down and doesn’t act like a doll. What happened to her super cute voice? And wow, Mai didn’t die? Holy crap! Have I said before that I think everyone is either dead or will die in Kanon? I’m sure I’ve said it before lol. I was also surprised that Mai’s mother lived in her flashback. The fact that the demons were only representations of Mai’s true power is a bit too farfetched in my opinion. I can appreciate the healing ability, but that developing into physical beings that can trash and destroy the school? It hit me that the school must have been built on the field Mai and Yuuichi played in, which is why the demons only attacked there. And of course, this is also why the demons were looking for Yuuichi specifically.

Man Yuuichi was and still is such a playboy lol. I bet he knew all of the girls in his current life a long time ago. He met them ALL in one short summer? That’s some achievement. And it really does tell you something that he made no male friends lol. And because of this, the comparison Mai made between her and Ayu arises. She explains that Ayu was still waiting while Mai couldn’t wait some time ago, and of course this means waiting for Yuuichi to return. Mai could not wait and her demon self surfaced, while Ayu had waited patiently the whole time for Yuuichi to return. Mai must have thought this self-consciously though, as otherwise she should have made the connection between the demons and herself. The problem now is that Yuuichi has already returned, yet Mai says that Ayu is still waiting. Yuuichi sort of ‘finalised’ his reunion with Mai this episode by clearing her head and getting rid of the demons, so I assume the ‘finalisation’ of his and Ayu’s reunion will be when he finds Ayu’s lost possession.

Out of the two arcs so far, Mai’s beats Makoto’s by a mile. Mainly because it has two extremely touching flashbacks; one of Mai and one of Sayuri. The latter girl was never really that involved, though she still presented an excellent side character with a tremendously good basis for her flashback. Hmm, come to think of it, did Amano ever get her flashback? And will she appear again? Or just as a final appearance near the end of the series with no real importance? Well anyway, this episode, in my opinion, is an excellent conclusion to Mai’s arc. The quality is top notch, and the classical music really suits the pace and mood. I was a bit surprised at her sudden attempt at suicide, though I was more surprised that there was no blood on her or the sword, and her clothes weren’t even ripped. Did she really stab herself? Well anyway, next arc is Shiori and Kaori, which will probably take up 5 episodes, and concluding with the Nayuki and Ayu arc. At this point I’m beginning to wonder how this series will end. A happy, life-goes-on-ending, or a sad, everyone-dies-ending is the big question here.

Plot Outline:
- Mai and Yuuichi face off against the demons as they begin to attack
- Mai manages to defeat one demon as the other attacks Yuuichi, who is able to fend it off effectively
- When the demon after Yuuichi is killed by Mai, she reveals the numerous, large bruises on her body to Yuuichi
- She explains that the bruises grow every time she kills a demon
- Mai then asks Yuuichi to take her to the place where they eat lunch together during school
- When the demon appears, Mai launches herself off the stairs, in hope of using the height to her advantage
- However, she fails to kill the demon, so Yuuichi decides to fight it himself

- Mai tells him to lure it to the courtyard for reasons unknown
- However, in the end it is the demon which throws him around and eventually pushing him out the window and onto the courtyard outside
- The reason for Mai wanting Yuuichi on the courtyard was so that she could jump off the roof and get the demon by surprise
- She manages to kill the demon, and suddenly decides that she really wants to eat a beef bowl
- Yuuichi goes to buy one, but when he comes back, Mai is gone and he realises that she had purposely sent him away to find it by herself
- Yuuichi then suddenly becomes suppressed by the last demon and finally remembers his past with Mai
- Mai has actually always had a special healing power, which she used to heal her mother when she should have died
- Because of this though, everyone became afraid of Mai and she had to move

- Yuuichi, however, became her friend and was never afraid of her
- In the end though, Yuuichi had to move back to his own home, leaving Mai by herself
- Mai had convinced herself that demons had come to destroy the fields in which she and Yuuichi often played in, when in fact they were actually builders who had come to construct the school
- Because of this, Mai’s own power became the demons which she so strongly believed in
- When Yuuichi finds Mai again, he tells her all this, and she finally accepts it as the truth
- However, she decides to commit suicide for all the pain she’s caused (for Yuuichi and Sayuri probably) and stabs herself with her sword
- She is saved by her own healing power though, who appears physically as Mai at a young age

Yuuichi did not meet all of the girls in one summer…
He met Mai 10 years ago( refer to Ep15 again). He met Ayu 7 years ago. He found Makoto inbetween 7-10 years ago.
So in essence, excluding Nayuki, he met Mai first, out of the four girls.
Cheers.
The flashbacks where indeed very touching, maybe Makoto’s arc was a bit inferior because the second girl, Amano, wasn’t featured nearly as much as Sayuri this time. And after all, Makoto was a fox and “only” left alone while this time there where two human girls having a very hard time in their childhood.
And chibi Mai was really cute, but the present Mai was cute, too… Uh, at least at times.
Oh, and btw, it’s pretty interesting watching you rebulding your site. *g*
nice rebuild, and concerning Mai:
1. lol @ bunny ears,Yuichi really gave them to her ^^
2. I love Mai even more now
3. where in the world did she get that sword?
?
Quote from Danny:
this episode makes me think that the girls should just stay small.
you lolicon
Danny, I just realized this anime has the HUEGest (HUEG like PS3) eyez compared to other anime.
Does this mean they can see forever?
=p
skane: ah i see…that clears some things up
saibotlieh: i found mai’s arc more powerful than makoto’s as well
ewok: a lot of things get unanswered i guess ^^’
budding: lol, not quite
darkshaunz: yes, they can see forever…and more
Good-bye Mai, may you rest in peace forever in “rejected by main character heroine heaven”.
Awesome ep. It has made me a 100% Mai fan, and she has the cutest most Moe Loli form hahaha but how come you didn’t include a picture of Mai’s Unlimited Snow Bunnie works? Meh if I could play the game I’ll just pick the Mai ending all the way and let the other girls do whatever x.x
lol @ Unlimited Snowbunny Works!!!!
Mai fan all the way myself…
TripleA: i wouldn’t call it a rejection exactly ^^’
flamestrike: it made me a 100% loli mai fan…does that count? xD
ewok: that moment was certainly very touching
Yes everyone probably or mostly thinks that everyone has their own story or mysteries bound them together with yuichi, but for me i have a different perspective, just as mai asked “who are you?” to yuichi that is. Lets think about it, not only he was able to befriend so many girls, he is able to influence them to a certain point that they would sacrifice themselves for him, so the real mystery in kanon isnt just the girls, but i personally believe that it is Yuichi. Since for example, the main point is that his memories are burried and even he had forgotten why he had stopped going to the town ever since years ago. Also a good hint is that Mai’s powers grew as Yuichi came since they want to communicate to him, Yuichi figured out and told Mai that because the powers were strong that he couldn’t understand, but wat if really HE is the one so powerful it took most of mai’s physical power forms to able to reach yuichi, remember it was he who have locked memories. Another good point is when Mai was young, and she can already access and talk to her powers, the powers most likely that girl named “hope” near the ending told Mai that he is coming, and he wouldnt be afraid of her since he is a strong boy, sort of indicates a good hint of why Mai’s power know about Yuichi, if he was a “normal” boy.
Also another point would be when Makoto died, and Amano asked him what if a real miracle can happen, wat would he wish for? Of course he said he didnt need think about it, and sort of (forshadowing?) or maybe not but in the end resulted that Makoto regained form, or was reborn, remember Amano said that a new life will be born, just as Yuichi wished for it (or thought of it) just all of a sudden showed that Makoto was reborned, although i might just be looking deeply into this.
i ♥ kanon ^^
