Innocent Venus: Episodes 7 & 8

Innocent Venus

Impressions:

What the hell??? How can you kill off Jo? He’s such an awesome character! It’s a lie – it has to be. He has to come back, he just has to…right? Damn I have no idea what to think. Jo is meant to be a main character so he can’t just die in the middle of the series can he? Although he didn’t really serve any important purpose regarding the grander scheme of things, so killing him is reasonable. And Jin turns out to be evil? I knew he was bent on his revenge but I didn’t know he would be so merciless as to stab Jo like that. I had begun to suspect he was being secretive at the end of episode 7, though I never suspected he was such a nasty character. So who’s the protagonist now? Maybe Shiba? Or could it be that Jin will remain the hero and turn good again or something? Eh…I dunno.

I said in some earlier entries that I like this series for its action, but now the storyline has become highly interesting especially with the revelations from Jin’s secret, as well as the answers to some questions posed earlier on. The military battles are very entertaining, though it would be more enjoyable if the opposing sides put more scheming into things to make it look more intense. Still, the mecha fights still suck bad, though the secret behind them does make things more interesting as the possibility of the pilot undergoing mental instability becomes known, thus I am now eagerly awaiting to see how screwed up pilots can become when they submit to the nerves in the mechas (they’re called Phantoms right? Or is that the name of the specialist group producing and using the mechas?)

I don’t thinkg Jo’s dead. In fact, I suspect Jin stabbed him in a non-vital spot on purpose to make it look like a genuine betrayal. And I have my suspicions about Jin’s true purpose: I suspect he’s protecting both Sana and Jo, but he has to make it look like he’s still a loyal Phantom member to pull it off. (including the stabbing) I’ve seen his character archetype before…they would rather their loved ones end up hating them than coming to harm. They get so wrapped up in their loved ones’ physical safety that they tend to downplay the emotional side.

I could be wrong about this, (I hope not, though…I *like* Jin, dammit!) but since everything in this series thus far has turned out to be more than it seems, I don’t think I’m wrong.

I’m 99% sure Jo is alive.

I’m not so sure about Basilisk’s theory, though I could definately see it happening and I think it’s a pretty good one.

Basilisk, I can totally see that happening, though I have no idea what to expect from Jin. He does seem a bit pushy when it comes to finding out Sana’s secret, so I dunno. If he really is a good guy, he was probably just lost in the thought of discovering Sana’s secret that he started disregarding her well-being. However, JIn does have reason to be bad, as he does seem pretty intent on exacting his revenge against his father.

so obvious jin turns evil from the begining of the show…didnt u guys notice how he has that mask thats half white half black obviously representing betrayl or he turns evil, most likely he wont turn good again + watch the end of the shows credits shows jo protecting sana and jin trying to take her away from him, seems jin just had bad intentions to take sana away from the start…after all he DID kill her dad, and every character in the show says how they cant trust jin, esp since he has no feelings when coming out of that machine = =

I just watched episode 10 and I’m still amazed at how much of a frickin’ sociopath Jin seems to be. How did he manage to be so sweet and gentle at the beginning of the series and a near-on raving lunatic towards the end?! Then again, I kept getting the impression of Jin and Jo being lovers, raising Sana as their daughter, so what do I know? I doubt it’s a coincidence that Jin, aka the new bad guy, has white/silver hair (the usual sign of “bad guy” in anime, especially “bad guy who doesn’t appear to be bad at first” or “wicked mastermind power behind the more obvious bad guy”), while Jo has black hair.
