Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai: Episode 11

Rating: 8/10

Impressions:

There are two more episodes in this arc, and it seems like the real action has just begun. We now know that Takano is and always has been the culprit, and I wonder if she’s going to start killing people off now. The name of this arc, “massacre”, might simply refer to the Hinamizawa Disaster caused by Takano, or some other, brutal form of killing. I would like to see the latter idea, though I’m guessing it’ll be the former in the end. With the mastermind revealed, with no obvious change in fate where it matters, it doesn’t look too good for Rika and her friends, once again. I just hope that she doesn’t go back on her statement about never giving up.

Keiichi takes a pretty amazing lead in this arc, becoming the obvious leader from the beginning. Like most people, I had thought Keiichi to be the main character when the first season began airing, though it became clear then on that each character is just as important. And with the start of this season, Rika becomes the focus character, as we find out that everything revolves around her. However, this arc is giving similar vibes to those I got from the arcs where Keiichi is prominent, and that’s a good thing. Keiichi’s energy and confidence is pretty impressive, mostly so in this arc.

The division of halves in this episode is very distinct, going from Satoko’s amazing rebellion against her uncle, to the unveiling of the evil mastermind behind Oyashiro-sama’s curse. Satoko’s half was directed really well, in my opinion. The heaving build-up to her eventual decision to stand up to her uncle makes for some excellent, dramatic scenes. It’s actually pretty painful to watch, seeing Satoko completely beaten up like that…And then in the second half, Takano gets some excellent scenes which reveal her true evilness to the world, done in excellent Higurashi fashion, with the somewhat deformed faces and twisted smiles.

Takano is an evil bitch. I wouldn’t have expected her to be the main evil one, but I was spoiled by wiki *sigh* Still, it was intresting to find out that the Yaminu and Tomitake where originaly a group to stop the Hinamizawa virus. Also, Irei-sensei is SO dead. He should tell the police right away.

Next time on Higurashi, NICE FOOD!

It was canceled because of some case with a Japanese girl killing her father with a hatchet so they stopped showing it.

Episode 13 is named termination. You get to see both.

Also, in episode 12, people die who NEVER died before. I’d tell you, but that’d ruin the surprise.
