Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai: Episode 1

Rating: 7/10
Impressions:
Some people may have mentioned that this is an anime-original episode, but I’m pretty sure it isn’t. It’s based on one of the TIPs of the actual game, with a few modifications, like how in the game Ooishi is absent and his role is achieved by another character, and how Rena doesn’t actually appear. If I’m wrong, please let me know, or if you don’t believe me, try having a look at this link. AS FOR the actual episode, I dunno whether I enjoyed it because I genuinely liked it or because it’s just a continuation of Higurashi. The quality may be higher, but the quality of the video file I watched is not so good, so I can’t really tell.

Warning: may contain spoilers, but honestly I dunno. I watched the first season when it aired, so right now, a lot of important information has already escaped from my mind. Therefore, deciphering what everything means is going to be pretty hard, or even impossible. I really should just watch the first season again, but I can’t be bothered and I still have some clue as to the events that occur. Anyway, this episode is, I believe, the last episode of Tsumihoroboshi-hen (the last arc of the first season), continuing from the last episode. This also helps answer the first arc (since Tsumihoroboshi-hen is the answer arc to Onikakushi-hen).

So what happens this episode anyway? Akasaka returns to Hinamizawa and investigates the occurrences of episodes 22 to 26 of Higurashi s1 (season 1) with his kouhei (junior) and Ooishi. They discuss the possibilities of the volcanic poisonous gases being false, and how the truth might be that a pathogen was intentionally created with the purpose of re-enacting some ancient disease/virus, which ended up being deadly and caused everyone’s deaths. And no, Rika does die in this arc (she’s watanagashi’d/brutally murdered). We also get to see a grown up Rena, who still seems to be a bit crazy.

The OP and ED are both pretty good, though they are definitely incomparable to the OP of the first season. Btw, if you reverse the OP, it sounds a lot like the OP of the first season…heh. Hanyuu also makes her appearance here, and I hear she’s being voiced by Horie Yui (lol that’ll be cool). I think she’s meant to appear in the last answer arc, Matsuribayashi-hen. Maybe she appears in Minagoroshi-hen as well, but I don’t know. I can’t wait to see her though. And if you have no idea who the hell Hanyuu is—(this is a spoiler ok)—she’s the real Oyashiro-sama, and a cute little girl at that xD. She’s the one who gets also mystically intimate with Rika in the ED hehe.

well, there are a lot of spoilers for the show, so I don’t quite get what you mean, but yes, that IS true so I guess you have to kill me. @_@
Well then, good luck in the near future.
Yes, that is kinda a big spoiler, but I had totally spoiled a lot of that kind of stuff after the first series ended without giving us any real answers.
And besides, it’s not that hard to piece together who Hanyu really is for yourself.
I’m personally holding out on watching till either Ayu or Wind deliver a sub…… that is I hope they pick up the second season.
*And besides, it’s not that hard to piece together who Hanyu really is for yourself.*
Knowing and suspecting something are two different hings.
I don’t think Rena’s Crazy Per ce, maybe a little stressed with the death of her friends? She said she snapped last time because she had problems at home, now she has problems coming out of the woodwork. Well, everyone look forward to the rest of the series.
You’re right, it is based off a game.
But this arc wasn’t in any of the games, it was made just for the anime.
The last two arcs will show up afterwards
you’re wrong about this being the last episode of Tsumihoroboshi-hen.
This is a new arc all together
Dazmi and My name: This is not an ‘arc’, but it does occur in the Tsumiboroshi-hen timeline, and in the game is presented as a TIP which relates to that arc. It is not a whole new arc, and it is not just made for the anime. If you have proof otherwise, please let me know.
… you will be soon hearing footsteps
