Hayate the Combat Butler: Episode 2

Rating: 9/10

Impressions:

I enjoyed this episode slightly more than the last episode. Whether this was because I watched a sub, or if the content was presented in a more humorous manner, I don’t know. Anyway though, I really like the narrative nature of this anime, with the narration and attempt to end the episode before the 20 minutes was up. It was pretty funny hearing the censoring of the word Gundam as well, while it took a rewind and pause for me to notice the Black Lagoon character look-alikes in this episode. Overall though, Hayate no Gotoku is highly amusing and entertaining, even if it’s not downright funny.

I’m looking forward to seeing the tiger and robot next episode. It’s the ridiculous nature of the characters and plot points that make Hayate no Gotoku highly enjoyable. The entire misunderstanding between Nagi and Hayate still gets me with its absurdity. Too bad the effect wasn’t that great in the last episode, as I mentioned how toned down it was. On a different topic, I was pleased with Nagi’s ‘urusai’, as many other Shana fans should be, though I can’t find it within me to compare the two characters. I guess the genres are too dissimilar, unlike Zero no Tsukaima, where the characters and premise are quite comparable.
