Hayate the Combat Butler: Episode 11

Rating: 9/10
Impressions:
This episode’s quality is quite low compared to the last episode, but I had never expected the high budget to be maintained for all the episodes to come. Story-wise, Hayate no Gotoku has returned to the manga, featuring a trip to visit Nagi’s grandfather. His depiction as a commoner gardener is quite hilarious, though something I’m sure many would easily be able to see through without reading the manga. I didn’t pick up many of the parodies (I suck at this sort of thing anyway), though overall the episode is still pretty funny. Nagi’s grandfather may be a generic old fart, but he’s a funny one at that.
Character and relational development once again increases with this episode. Hayate finds a new purpose in life, which is to protect Nagi, which she unfortunately (or fortunately?) takes the wrong way. Being the innocent and foolish girl she is, Nagi comes to think that Hayate has sworn some kind of oath to her to be with her romantically forever…or something like that. Hayate himself though, thinks Nagi would be poor if he doesn’t pay off his debt, which is the reason behind his actions. Regardless of the details though, the misunderstanding that is ensued time and time again never fails to make me laugh.
