Gigantic Formula: Episode 5

Rating: 9/10

Impressions:

This episode’s a lot more fun to watch than episode 4 I’d say, as it’s a well-orientated break from the seriousness and action. However, we still get some action, this time on foot, which is a welcome change. The pink spots which represent blushing still gets to me, though I liked the character development between Suwa and Mana. However, it’s apparent that Mana is still quite restless, which makes it quite touching to see her starting to accept being saved by Suwa, instead of the other way around. The fact that she was with this ‘Ninja’ special forces makes the entire show even more unbelievable, but it doesn’t get to me much.

I still wonder how old Kuwa and Mana are. They seem to be in high school, but can often act much older, or even younger. The way they interact though (blushing etc) makes them look pretty young. Ok after such speculating, I decided to actually find out how old they are, and it turns out Suwa is only 13, while Mana is 14. Hmm, no wonder they’re both so short…lol. Well ok, now this question comes into play in just about every mecha anime there is, why does the pilot of such a powerful weapon just happen to be a kid? (or kids?) Well it really doesn’t matter, so I’m not going to say any more. At least in my opinion, it’s more interesting watching kids pilot giant robots…

the main characters’ ages tend to be the ages are the main target of the shows. then kids imagine themselves as heroes, and buy more merchandise. adults never look as cool in children’s eyes. oh, and this is a bandai show.

I would not say NGE is aimed at teens …

The issue with the whole age of the protagonists is how its easier to mold such characters because they are young … the bad news is that it became a too used formula (pun intended) and too easy to do what have been done to death again and again.
