Fall Season Start!

Isn’t it nice…Kanon and Suzumiya Haruhi are practically intertwined…

Most of the subs have come out now, but there are still a few I have yet to see that I had been planning to earlier. Anyway, here’s a list of the fall season series I’ve watched and where I rank them (Black Lagoon isn’t included). I am sure the orders will change over the next few weeks as I watch more episodes, so this is really just based on first impressions. Ratings are awarded according to how much I enjoy the series, which means I can be completely biased on them. I’ll go from worst to best.

16. Super Robot Wars OG

6/10

The CG is good but everything else is crap…really.

15. Negima!?

7/10
Blogging? Maybe

Have to watch some more because the first episode didn’t really stand out.

14. Yoake Mae yori Ruriiro na Crescent Love

7/10
Blogging? Yes

The second episode really destroyed the whole thing.

13. Busou Renkin

7.5/10
Blogging? Yes

Seems a lot like another shounen series, but I see potential!

12. Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru

7.5/10
Blogging? Yes

If this turns out to be full shoujo-ai, I’m fine with it; it’s just that I was expecting a real harem show, as in, the main character is a GUY, which the “guy” in OtoBoku is obviously NOT!

11. Sumomomo Momomo

7.5/10
Blogging? Yes

Totally hilarious and perverted – perfect!

10. Tokimeki Memorial

8/10
Blogging? Yes

Nekomimi! Sure, it’s different, but that’s what makes it stand out. Keep an eye out for the chicken!

9. Gift – Eternal Rainbow

8/10
Blogging? No

Another harem, but much more serious. The story behind the ‘gift’ is a prefect setup for what’s to come. Just one problem – the eyes are too big.

8. Asatte no Houkou

8/10
Blogging? Yes

Very, very intriguing plot and the hook at the end of the first episode was…hooky! I don’t watch too many slice-of-life or drama series, but this one looks pretty good. I’m quite confident I will like this till the end.

7. Pumpkin Scissors

8/10
Blogging? Yes

I really like everything I see, but war/military shows are just not my thing, so the fact that this show is not dead last is pretty good.

6. Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge

8.5/10
Blogging? No

Absolutely hilarious! Just the bi-shounen really put me off.

5. D.Gray-man

8.5/10
Blogging? Yes

I feel compelled to read the manga now. Everything is fairly good except it doesn’t seem very complicated, as it is just another shounen series. Who knows, maybe it’ll turn out like Naruto or something.

4. Happiness!

8.5/10
Blogging? Yes

I like the story, and that’s about it. The quality isn’t that good and I don’t like the character design that much, but the story…the story. It makes you feel high spirited when you watch it too, like other fun shows.

3. Code Geass

9.5/10
Blogging? Yes

Not quite what I expected, but that’s actually a good thing as it surpassed my previous expectations. I’ve only seen the first episode but I know potential when I see it…let’s just hope the show doesn’t bomb like three episodes into the series…

2. Death Note

9.9/10
Blogging? Yes

As expected, Death Note came second after the second episode and it’s getting better! Even though I have read the manga, seeing the first scene between Light and L awed me nonetheless. For those of you who haven’t read the manga and didn’t find the first episode all too appealing, watch the second episode, then make up your mind. This series will go a long way…

1. Kanon

10/10
Blogging? Yes

It’s a close one between this and Death Note, but as of episode 2, I think Kanon wins by just a little. This is mainly because I have read the Death Note manga which means it won’t be as exciting as it should be. Still, I predicted Kanon would be my favourite this season and it definitely had a good start, but there’s still a long way to go before I can truly say this is my favourite.

[…] As a side note, I’ve seen another two fall series apart from this one after this post. They are: ‘Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo’ and ‘Galaxy Ange-lune’. Both were pretty good (though I am definitely not blogging either of them as I already have far too much) but completely different in terms of…everything! Mamoru-kun, a romantic comedy, is about an extremely skilled mage (I dunno the correct term) who falls in love with a green-haired shota. Fairly funny but it’s just one of those light-hearted animes that I enjoy. Then there’s Galazy Ange-lune, the craziest anime I’ve ever seen in my life. I haven’t seen any other Galazy Angel series so I was completely unprepared for the surprise it gave me. Everything was so random yet so goddamn hilarious! The funny thing is it’s combined with some irrelevant mecha with really good CG. That’s totally unnecessary but of course, since it’s there, it’s all the better. Out of the two, I have to say I like Galaxy Ange-lune better. The show is priceless, but then again, I wouldn’t be able to come up with anything to say if I tried to blog it. Out of those two and this show here though, Bakumatsu definitely wins because I always prefer more serious anime to the less serious ones. […]
