D.Gray-man: Episode 7
Rating: 7.5/10 (Ok Retsgip, you sucked me in. I’m doing the ratings thing now…)
Impressions:
Aww, what a disappointing episode! And this time, the quality isn’t the main problem, although it is the worst out of all the episodes so far. I think the same two shots were used like three times each, not to mention they were drawn badly in the first time. The characters often looked like they were looking in directions they’re not supposed to due to the poorly drawn eyes. I have to say that drawing the pupil one extra centimetre to the right or something is going to cost so much to make the animation studio go bankrupt. I was also really pissed off at the ‘debut’ of Linali’s anit-Akuma weapon. The quality was shit and the action was shit too, which means Linali’s grand entrance was muffled down to a mere joke, and next episode, when she’s MEANT to be showing off her powers for the first time, will also be crushed in terms of excitement, but not that much compared to this episode. Her meant-to-be debut is also a lot more suspenseful and not so rushed. At least her obvious liking to Allen should still be there, since that’s one of the episode’s highlights.
Allen: WAKE UP LINALI!
Linali, who is about to be crushed by Komrin, finally stirs at the sound of Allen’s voice. Suddenly, she jumps up onto Komrin’s cannon, still seemingly lifeless, but seems to have resolved to do something.
Linali: I heard Allen’s voice…Is he back yet?
And BANG, Linali goes berserk! (OMG it’s love I tell ya!)
Uh huh, that dialogue above’s meant to be the oh-so-touching, suspenseful and most importantly well scripted first appearance of Linali’s Dark Boots, but no they had to ruin it for one extra filler that could have been merged with the previous episode. As for an ‘about-Mana’ episode, I think keeping people in the dark for a bit longer isn’t such a bad thing. Or it could have all just been squeezed into episode 6. And in the manga, Linali doesn’t find out about Allen’s secret, and the bond of trust that develops regardless of these secrets is pretty important. I guess that’s not possible now. I wish the anime hadn’t shuffled the chapters around. I don’t think the would’ve lost viewers if the second episode revealed some information about Mana, since everyone hungers for information! Oh and just in case you don’t know, Mana is Allen’s foster-father. His real parents abandoned him when he was born due to his arm. And if you’re thinking of his first kill (Mana) marks the ‘awakening’ of his anti-Akuma weapon, think of it as an egg being laid. Now think of his upgrade to a cannon-type weapon as the egg hatching into a caterpillar. What’s next? Pupa right? Oh shi- that was a big spoiler! Ok, maybe not since only manga readers will know what I am talking about. And of course, after a period in the pupa, it becomes a butterfly. Actually, just think of the butterfly as some sort of giant killer moth in a tank or something, just as long as the thing you visualise is pretty damn powerful. I can’t wait for this next arc since Linali replaces that stupid Kanda as Allen’s partner. Hooray for Linali lovers! Anyway, next episode seems to have better quality than this episode, but you can never be sure from previews.

So Linali and Allen are actually going to get together or something? O_O; I thought it was a joke when I heard people talking about it when Allen rushed to Linali’s side. I thought that was Allen just being Allen.

To the above post [/spoiler] i’m still waiting for what that whole “dream sequence” in the manga is all about, since Linali and Allen seem to be the only ones apart of it(with Allen on the top and linali on the bottom) i’m assuming that its going to be very important to the storyline as it was even featured in the anime OP. :/ AllenXLinali fans unite! I’m glad I can be of some service ;p I always find rating shit super hard sometimes. 1-9 are usually decently rated, but then i always fuck around with the rating from 9-10 with a whole bunch of decimals. I think the best way to go is a 1-5 scale and just be very lenient with your grading. I’d probably end up with tons of 5’s but thats cool too.
I’m so fckin behind on this anime. I loved the first arc but I’m having a hard time watching the random shit after it. Maybe because it looks like filler material, or just because I don’t think they can top the first arc, I’m not really sure.
Don’t worry, now the next arc starts and it’s going to be awesome!
i read the manga after watching the first 6 episodes…apparently there must be some kind of purpose putting lenalee in this situation…allen+lenalee=rocking exorcists…
