D.Gray-man: Episode 56

Rating: 8/10

Impressions:

I’m sure having Allen in such a helpless position is only going to make him stronger later on. Is it just me, or is the pacing really slow? The drawn out moments do add to the graveness of the situation, as well as Tyki’s sinisterness (is that even a word?) Well, it would seem like Allen has died, but we know that’s impossible. In any case, it’s nice seeing Linali get so agitated and upset over Allen’s disappearance. Right now, it’s still just a matter of losing friends, but the friends bit can hopefully escalate later on (though I highly doubt it…and Linali gets a ‘haircut’…ouch).

Great episode! I really appreciate the artistry and detail of this episode and the ones before and after. The imagery is amazing and the emotional turmoil of the protaganist is cutting. They are very very hard to watch however as poor Allen is screaming in pain half the time and if you don’t know what happens next it can seem extreemly sad.

It’s exceptionally morbid when you seperate it from the story and view it abstractly; The whole episode is basically about a fifteen year old boy being symbolically raped and tortured to death in the woods and the story around it.

Woh… anime has already caught up this much? By the looks of the screenshots, quality has been keeping up. Maybe I should check some episodes out…
