D.Gray-man: Episode 4

Impressions:

Wow, the manga is now official much better than the anime. The anime has been toned down so much it’s like the target age group has just gone down by a few (or more) years. Firstly, why the hell did Guzoru look so retarded in the anime? I’d much rather him look extremely ugly like he is in the manga rather than something that looks like a piece of wood! Another thing, the Akuma’s voice is retarded too. It sounds almost jolly! Why can’t demons act like real demons instead of a guy in a big bunny suit trying to entertain some little kids at a party? That’s exactly what the Akuma are like! Another thing, Lala looks much more mature in the anime than the manga, but I’m not saying that part is a bad thing. Anyway, this episode covered eleven, twelve and a third of thirteen. I’m expecting the big event to happen next episode (it’s gonna be awesome!), and the arc will either end that episode or the one after. However, even though that will be great, the ending will be veeery sad (well, for me, as I get sad often). Aww, I’m still thinking about that very sad moment at the end of the arc…

Here are some images to compare between the anime and manga:

Guzoru (anime | manga)
Lala before meeting Guzoru (anime | manga)
Lala (anime | manga) - there’s not much difference here!

I would like to say I was surprised that Lala is the doll and not Guzoru, especially when he looked like a wooden figurine. I would also like to say that the Akuma impersonating the Finder was a nice twist I didn’t see coming. Again, I’d love to say that I can’t wait to see the next episode to find out what happens. But alas (omg I used the word ‘alas’!!), I cannot, since I read everything in the manga beforehand. It’s at times like this where you decide which to do – 1. Read the manga and be satisfied with knowing everything earlier, but then being spoiled while watching the anime, or 2. Don’t read the manga and watch the anime without being spoilt, but then painfully waiting for the next episode. I have decided to take that first option, as this episode helped me make up my mind. And exactly how did it do that? I already said in the first sentence of this entry: the manga is better than the anime (once again…) But another consequence that comes with that is I have hardly anything to write in my entries. But one thing I can always talk about is the quality of the show. I noticed a slight drop in quality this episode, not by the inconsistency in character animation (as there were none) but the edgy action sequences, still shots and the repetition of the same frames. Also, the melody Lala was singing definitely didn’t match her mouth movement. Even that part was very choppy, just switching between frames to make it appear like her mouth is moving. A few extra frames in there wouldn’t hurt to make it look more fluid. Now to spoil myself and read the next manga volume! XD

Plot Outline:

- Huh? Two Allens? I’m afraid not, as one of them is the Akuma!
- It turns out that the duplicate Allen is actually the Akuma, which has evolved to gain the ability to copy anything it sees
- Now that the Akuma has Allen’s power, it easily smashes him into some building before bounding off to chase Timcanpy
- Meanwhile, the Ghost of Marteel reveals himself as a faceless guy
- Kanda goes straight to the point and explains he needs to get the innocence which is inside him
- Before he can do so though, the Ghost of Marteel and the girl who’s with him escape
- Toma, the finder, meets up with Kanda again, bringing Timcanpy with him
- After the little golem shows Kanda the Akuma, he determines that its ability to copy is flawed in that anything it copies is reversed
- Allen emerges from the rubble he is and starts searching for Kanda
- The girl, Lala, leads Guzoru to an underground area to hide

- A guy who looks like Allen emerges, but he is reversed
- Seeing this, Kanda unleashes his sword to kill him, but Allen saves the guy’s life
- It turns out that the Allen look-alike is actually Toma after the Akuma changed his appearance
- The Toma with Kanda the whole time turns out to be the real Akuma, and after being found out, attacks and injures Kanda
- Allen saves both Toma and Kanda from the Akuma and flees
- In the underground area, Lala asks Guzoru why he said he was the doll
- It turns out that it is Lala is the doll and therefore contains the innocence
- This was the reason why Guzoru lied to Kanda; to protect Lala
- Lala then starts singing a song for Guzoru as she knows he is about to die
- Hearing the tune, Allen (supporting both Kanda and Toma) makes his way down into the underground room
- They then encounter Lala, who seemed to have been expecting them to come soon

Ah, the manga is almost always better than the anime. I can’t get my hands on most of the manga for the series, so I’m stuck looking like a n00b when I talk about all these shows xD

So, according to the manga, Guzoru is supposed to at least look human, albeit a scary one, right? Or is he not human? Because he definitely looks like a doll in the anime xD Thus my suprise when Lala was the doll, despite the major hints into her past. -totally didn’t click in my head-

Eh…I’m pretty sure he’s human… but I could be wrong (if it was in the manga about whether he was a human or not, i can’t remember)

Yeah, Guzoru’s human in the manga. He got abandoned because he was ugly. Lala found and took care him after that.

Well I myself really like the anime even though I have not read the Manga version, Its one of the best ones out there currently, To combat your easiness to get sad lol Try doing some training excersise or do a martial art lol and train real hard on that, it will make you stronger physically and mentally, but if its movies you get sad about then you are a simpathetic person, thats a good thing hahaha

At least D.Gray-man has not recked its plot, story line and image to the viewer like other animes at Episode 31 lol can’t wait for the rest to come out ;)
Anyway good summary of This anime mate ;)
