D.Gray-man: Episode 12

Rating: 8.5/10

Impressions:

Ok first up lemme give you guys a rundown on the next arc, since it’s been going around that the Miranda arc is the last mini arc. This is wrong, there is still another miniarc to go, featuring Allen and the newly introduced Lavi. HOWEVER, you can call this part of the main arc as well, since…well, technically it IS part of the main arc. This means that the next arc actually advances the story, while these first two arcs are too detached from the main arc. Anyway, there will also be more arcs later on, but they will be all part of the main storyline of course. Anyway, as we’ve had an Allen x Kanda and an Allen x Linali, of course there’s gonna be a new partner now. The next arc, in the manga, has about 14 chapters, as opposed to the 8 chapters of Miranda’s arc and 9 or so chapters in Lala’s arc. Both arcs were four episodes (I think), so this next arc will mostly be longer. I’m guessing something around 6, but we’ll see. Aside from that, the anime has covered roughly a quarter of the chapters which have been scanlated so far, which is up to the hundreds. It also seems like the manga is drawing to a close, and could go on for perhaps another 20 or so chapters.

OR it could go on for another 100 but I dunno. Anyway, with this information, it looks like 52 episodes will be a minimum for this series. D.Gray-man is relatively slow compared to another shounen I know well: Bleach, which covered like 150 or so chapters in 50 episodes. I think. Anyway though, the quality went up a bit this episode, and being a fight, it turned out rather well. I really like Road’s character, though she didn’t actually engage in any combat. Allen being mentally weak is such a drawback though. He didn’t even try to attack Road! What’s he gonna do? He knows he’s gonna have to kill her and the other Noahs someday. He also deserved that bitchslap from Linali. What’s more, his seiyuu did a nice job of that scene when he goes spastic and screams at Linali. And if you guys think they made up by the end of the episode, THINK AGAIN! Unless the producers decide to leave out all the character development AGAIN and make them friends again without effort. This does go to show Linali’s care for Allen though, which is something important enough to not be neglected. And another not-so-important thing, Lavi sounds too…croaky? Oh well I guess I’ll get used to it soon.

    Lavi shares the VA as Hikaru( Ouran High School Host Club). With that in mind, go back and listen to Lavi again. ;)

    Cheers.

    Well, that would explain why Lavi sounds so quirky xDD So is his personality similiar to Hikaru’s or what?

    And Allen and Linali don’t make up at the end?! But I agree, it was nice Linali development there.

    You’re right qwertypoiuy, it’s not on the same level as either of those shows.

    It’s not been ravaged with mind-numbingly dull fillers like Bleach or Naruto.

    Hm. I rather liked this episode. =]

    But. Er. I didn’t really expect Rabi’s voice to be like that.
    A bit quirky and casual yes, but maybe a bit more. . . deeper? ^^;;;
    And the subs introduced him as Lavi. =O
    I might start calling him that too instead of Rabi. x]

    Er. Rabi’s VA also does Hikaru. =O
    It seems seiyuus from OUran are becoming quite popular. With Tamaki’s VA also doing Raito from Death Note.
    But. If you look up all the VAs of D. gray-Man, you can find all of them has done at least one other role in a familiar or well-known anime. =O

    Anyways. I look forward to the next episode. =]
