Death Note licensed: subbers stop subbing?
As some of you may well know already, Death Note has been licensed by VIZ Media. I shall quote Wikipedia: “As of January 10, 2007, the anime series has been licensed by VIZ Media.” You can read about it on VIZ Media’s official site here. Ok so what does this mean? Are the fansub groups still going to be subbing them? Live-Evil have announced that they have dropped the subbing of Death Note. Toriyama World have also announced that they will be dropping Death Note. Animanda, however, have not announced that they will be dropping it. You should read the comments as Death Note fans enquire about the licensing of the show. So what happens with me? Well, if Animanda continues to sub Death Note, I will of course continue to follow the series by subs. However, if they were to stop subbing it, I will still continue on with raws. And no, if VIZ starts subbing it and charging for downloads, I won’t buy them.

Oh, licensing kills us all xD It takes too long to be released here, while in the meantime destroys almost all subbing of our precious shows! Well, I hope someone continues subbing it, for I will surely have headaches trying to follow Light and L’s many and thorough monologues in the RAW, though if I can get through the Special in RAW hopefully I can get through anything xD
Ahhhh! *claws eyes out* such horrible news. Oh well, maybe this will force me to go buy the manga or something, but I definitely won’t be paying for official subs/dubs. Here’s hoping someone will pick up the rest.
Haven’t we had this situation with many other series before- and there’s always been a way to keep ‘acquiring’ it. Although I can live without Death Note since I’ve read all the manga.

Bah, there is never no subbing on something this popular. Either one group doesn’t stop, or some random underground group takes over. This was inevitable anyways, Viz was probably talking about licensing this before it even aired. Super popular adaption of one of their best selling manga? Yeah, their gonna let that go.

Well if they stop subbing that SUCKS! We’ve already watch 12 episodes, I can’t just drop a show in the middle like that. I really hate licensing. I hope Animanda doesn’t drop this!

1) no more fansubs (most of the time)
2) the eng. dubs usually (99.8%) of the time are horrible n cause me to die on the ground laughing or make me wanna plug my ears

That’s too bad, although I suppose it was going to happen sooner or later with the popularity that Death Note was recieving. Atleast a few sub groups are still continuing their work on the series (which I’m super grateful for). I honestly don’t know how they’ll pull off a decent English version of Death Note without some extremely talented voice actors - the only dubbed anime series that turned out semi-ok was Cowboy Bebop, the rest are flatout butchered in English format.
I found Neon Genesis Evangelion’s dub a pretty good one.
Oh this is such crappy news! Why do they do this to us mid series!?? *sigh* Fingers crossed that someone out there will continue to sub, I hate not getting to finish series’ that I love!!!!
Hellsing’s anime and OVA dubs are excellent. It’s the only dub i prefer over the original japanese. I hope Animanda keeps going, because it’s stupid that we have to pay for subtitles. Also, the series isn’t over yet, so why is it licensed?

What needs to be done is a subbing company that will sub all good anime licensed or not i was sad to hear it was dropped by live evil as they got it out fastest but if at least one group keeps subbing everyone will be able to watch it
actually, with the licensing of death note, a horde of sub groups have taken up the show, and now it has more people subbing it than ever before!
That really sucks, I’ve only seen two episodes of Death Note and I’m already hooked. I hope fan subbing does continue because the licensed subs, and especially the dubs, are horrible! I remember on one anime i got the dvd and they directly translated a name and it turned out to be some sort of vegitable! I hope viz don’t do the same to death note, it’d take way the atmosphere of the episodes.
I hope it doesn’t take as long as Initial D to make it to Australia… it only too Initial D a decade and a bit to make it to Australia… I don’t think I can wait that long for Death Note!!

*Ahem* pissed off… it is not your right to download something which you have no right to. The makers of the show spent time and effort making it and deserve money in return. VizMedia does a decent job subbing it themselves, and when the dub comes out I don’t doubt that it will be alright, so they, too, deserve money for their work. Sure, the free subbing groups also deserve money for their good work, but when it comes down to it, they were not the ones who made the show.
Sure, it annoys me as well because I am by no means a legal abider and will never actually buy it, however, when it comes down to it you have no right to insult them.

Sure the makers deserve money for what they’ve done, and they do, a bloodly lot , the problem being for those of us who live in countries who don’t get the show aired to us and have to end up waiting forever to buy the DVD set off eBay because the DVD won’t be sold in these same countries either.
Unfortunatly for you “Somekid”, he who can only say “piss off” in a past tense, this is when the glory of the internet kicks in, and those last 2 episodes will be avaliable to download, with subs, whether you like it or not because VIZ Media can’t keep check on every bloody website, then they’ll fail to uphold their rights because too many sites will have it avaliable to download, just like those idiots in America who thought they could pass a bill to rid the internet of pornography! So unlucky, bitch.

I don’t think it’s gonna be so bad, what you guys are thinking is that Viz media is gonna make it kid appropriate but they can’t do that with Death Note since, you can’t cut out all the scenes not kid apropriate or else you’d be left with nothing
