Death Note: Episode 9

Rating: 8.9/10 (quality is appalling)
Impressions:
Finally, L and Light come to a face-to-face confrontation, and guess what, Light completely breaks down! We finally see Light as an monstrously evil self with the sole intention of killing L. However, his original goal, to reform the world, still remains and has become instinctual. He will continue to kill criminals as that is his major priority, and must also find away to shake off the ever-persistent L. This episode turns out to be my favourite so far, with the tremendously exciting turn of events, even though I knew it would happen. The one thing that severely depresses me is that the quality has rotted down so far this episode, I felt myself detesting the animation at times. Light is drawn with such horridness and inaccuracy at certain times it’s not even funny. All the characters are looking less like how the should be every episode. I also realise the choppiness that is occasionally present is used for effect, I see it more as a way of saving money, since those scenes would have done better with slow-motion rather than fading frames. Aside from those heavily negative aspects, I still enjoyed this episode the most. However, the most anticipated episode for me is still to come. Warning: spoilers coming up. The next episode will feature Light and L in an impressive tennis match, combined with some intensive pondering regarding what the other is thinking. Following that the two have quite an amusing conversation together. It also seems that the incident with the 2nd Kira will begin next episode as well. This means Misa will most likely appear either in episode 11 or 12.

I’ve noticed the changes in quality only a little. Yes, sometimes Light looked strange, and at the ceremony L had that “blank” face all the time which somehow annoyed me. In the manga, while L follows Light to the stage, his face was not blank but…dangerous, I’d say http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n8/gally_lingua/anime/DeathNote-03-019-04.png Fortunately, after revealing himself as L he again becomes recognisable as he sits beside Light and watches the ceremony.
That damn choppiness only seems to spoil the motion. Sometimes I like it but in episode 9 it’s used too often. I pray they spend more money on animation in episode 10, since there’s gonna be TENISU, and TENISU implies ACTION. The preview contained a promise of action. Hopefully, they’ll keep this promise.
Anime also has more darkness (in colors and mood) than the manga. This was inevitable, and that is still okay, and anyway drama is in fashion today. But sometimes this darkness kills humor. For example: wasn’t the speech of Light and L hilarious? The way they both presented their speech and how the students discussed them? Really, a bit more light and a little less tension would do no harm.
But except for the frames, the scene of their first meeting during the exams was perfectly shown. Facial expressions, tension, the music – everything was in place. The pen in L’s hand looked beautiful. And when L revealed his identity, silence fell and everything began to shine with blue and red…. And when they sat together at the ceremonty there was a funny even kawaii moment of them together which wasn’t in the manga http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n8/gally_lingua/anime/together.jpg
frankly the quality doesnt bother me anymore, this episode was wicked!
the low quality really ruins the experience though…
