Death Note: Episode 6

Impressions:
*No (big) spoilers in this entry!* This episode covered two chapters again; eleven and twelve. At this rate, the anime won’t be able to finish unless it became a 52 episode series (since there are 108 chapters). There’s the possibility that the anime will follow the live-action ending, though I seriously doubt that, as the manga is being followed almost word for word. I also hope it doesn’t follow the live-action ending since I think it’s even shitter than the normal ending (since I read spoilers for the live-action ending). Anyway, the quality has gotten slightly lower this episode, and it looks like the producers will have trouble keeping it up. I did like the laggy scenes though, since they really did suit the ‘Kira is God’ mood. The contrasting hair colours that the anime seems to be addicted to is also an effective technique to show the relationships between Light and his enemies, though it’s kinda strange that Kira is red. Well, it depends on how you see this, but I say red is more ‘good’ than blue. But then again, red is the colour of blood, and the eyes of monsters often turn red and such. Anyway, the next episode will be fun and suspenseful. Light will have to do some more intellectual thinking, and Watari’s face will be revealed!

Some people might be wondering why the show ended the way it did, since it seemed like Light was ready to kill Shouko right? Well, it’s a given that programs on TV try to keep viewer interest by ending episodes in high suspense, at a cliff-hanger or on the verge of some sort of big revelation. However, it is also abnormal for the episode to start with a ‘conclusion’ to an event. For example, L’s face being revealed is not a conclusion to and event, but the death of Ray Penber is. Light didn’t kill him at the start of an episode right? This means that his fiancé is most likely not going to die at the start of the next episode. However, it appears that Light has already gained everything he needs to kill her, so it’d be natural for her to die at the start, when the cliff-hanger this episode was Light’s resolution to kill her. So, there has to be something in between. It could be that the incident with Light and the fiancé is completely ignored until the end of the episode, but that’s unlikely since, like I just said before, this episode ends on a cliff-hanger suggesting Ray’s fiancé will be killed. However, it does happen so there’s no reason why it can’t happen now. Well actually, I assume the manga has already determined the course of the next episode, but if you’re a non-manga reader, you should be able to tell that something comes up. I’ll leave you to think.

Anywaaay, L has been fully animated!! I love how L looks and acts. He is such a unique detective. How gay would the show be if L was a ‘normal’ detective (this is aimed at manga readers). Everything would become boring and retarded. L is quite well known for his bulging eyes, his baggy clothes and the way he sits. Those are the things that I think about when I hear his name anyway. For some reason, L doesn’t seem to have any eyebrows, or they’re just really high up. He clearly does have eyebrows in the manga. Was this intentional or did the animators forget to draw them in? Anyway, I loved watching L come up with all his awesome plans in the manga. He’s so much better in this aspect than Light. However, I’m not very fond of L’s seiyuu, it sounds too slurry. I can’t wait until chapter 19 gets animated, since that marks the time when both L and Light’s deductive skills need to go into overdrive and the whole experience gets much more exciting. And, if you remember, chapters 11 and 12 were covered this episode, so I can expect chapter 19 in as soon as 3 or 4 episodes! But still, it’s not as exciting as the appearance of Misa! Ahh, she’s so cool…

Plot Outline:
- L reveals his face
- L and the other police begin deducing Kira’s actions from before the death of all the FBI agents
- Light goes over his recent actions to see if he made any mistakes
- He comes to the conclusion that the only big hole he left would only be applicable if L and the police found out that he can kill by means other than heart attacks
- But since no one has figured this out, he believes he is safe
- When Light arrives at the police station with some clothes for his dad, he overhears a woman trying to get past the front desk to talk with those working on the Kira case
- The woman explains that she has vital information regarding Kira and needs to speak with the police directly

- However, but the receptionists say that there is currently no one in the office
- Light tells her that he is the son of the vice-chief of the Kira case, and that he’ll let her talk with him on his mobile
- The two walk outside where she starts explaining everything she knows about Kira
- She claims that Kira can kill by means other than heart attacks (and Light’s hole has been exploited)
- She also reveals that this is because she is Ray Penbar’s fiancé
- She thinks this because she managed to get her fiancée to reveal that he had showed someone on the bus during the hijacking his FBI identification card
- This means that the person who saw the card must be Kira
- Light knows he has to get rid of her and manages to get her name
- At the end of the episode, Light comments on their must be another god apart from the death gods on his side for allowing the fiancé to talk to him before the police, as it’d be all over otherwise

it wasn’t as exciting as last time but I liked how the police now each have a personality, including L. I wonder how light will kill Shouko in the end, you seem to be hinting somehting…
omg L is soo cute and his mannerisms are just too adorable! I think I might just possibly like him betetr than light XD!!!!!!
I was just thinking, how the hell is he gonna conceal the fact that he can control how people die the entire series. And once they find out, wouldn’t it be super easy for them to figure out it’s Light. There’s got to be some sort of twist because as it stands, I feel like Light will slip up sooner or later. I’m interested in how they deal with this issue, and I’m excited to see what else Light can do to screw with everyone’s minds. I always enjoy the whole “trail leading to an answer” type plots because its like psuedo-chasing the enemy yet through words. Although in this case, I’m watching it from the other perspective because for once we can actually cheer for the anti-hero.
All I’ll say is that it’s boring when the problem stays the same, so if it gets more problematic, the process of correcting/solving it becomes more interesting!
waha, that’s a nice little teaser there. light’s made and will make heaps of mistakes and L is a gun at catching them
i wish they would speed things up so that they show the same ending as the manga. I really liked the ending cuz because of it, I had troubles sleeping. Anyway, it’s good that the anime follows the manga unlike the other animes, it’s not like they could change/cut the thoughts, conclusions and plans of the character without changing or leaving something in the story line. but woah, death note is excellent in anime and manga (currently)
