Death Note: Episode 5

Impressions:

Now this is why I watch Death Note: Light’s awesome and well thought-out plans, although they aren’t flawless. I am also a Light fan because he’s evil. I like anti-heroes like him, since they’re wicked. Of course, I also enjoy watching L since he’s a suitable opponent for Light. Well, the plan this time went really well, and I’m sure many of the none-spoiled viewers didn’t see it coming. It was ingenious! Although yes, it was flawed and will bring Light some trouble, as he is already worried about making a mistake. Contrary to what many people think, Ray’s wife will not be a major arc or anything. I’m pretty surprised that the episode managed to squeeze in three chapters this time. Ray’s wife should only occupy another 1 or 2 episodes. People should know that although by killing all the FBI agents, Light doesn’t draw any attention, but if he killed Ray’s wife, he’d be in deep shit right? He’d become the centre of all suspicion and L will definitely pick it up. So, the question is: what happens to Ray’s wife? I’ve said things are resolved after a couple episodes, so whatever happens has to be pretty fast…

Everyone’s hyped up about seeing L but it’s really no big of a deal. Manga readers will of course know what he looks like and those who watch the OP will have seen his face like a dozen times now. There are also other sources, random pictures and even something as obvious as Memento’s header banner (on the left is Light, and the right is L). But of course, we now also get to see how L’s mind works in much more detail, as you should be able to imagine him explaining all his ideas to the remaining 5 police officers. His mannerisms will also be animated, which will be really cool. L is practically the opposite in terms of appearance and behaviour to Light, even though their minds work almost exactly the same. Ah – something just occurred to me. Why does Light have brown hair? It’s not really important, just a random thought. Anyway, L’s past won’t be revealed until later on so those anticipating this information will have to wait…or be spoiled! It is quite true that this anime is best viewed without knowing everything that’s been going on. I’d say that if I hadn’t read the manga, Death Note would probably be my favourite anime currently.

Spoilers:

Now the two things I am waiting for in the anime is; a) Misa’s appearance, and b) L’s and Light’s face-to-face encounter. Both are quite exciting, as for one, Misa’s personality is pretty cool, not to mention she’s pretty hot. L’s and Light’s encounter, well, anyone can imagine the explosiveness that will come about from that. I think someone from Random Curiosity said that the anime will cover all the manga in 37 episodes because some characters later on appear in the OP, but I can’t remember any of the not-that-big characters near the end. Anyway, I wish L would battle Light until the end, and not have things completely screwed up with L’s and Light’s eventual deaths. The ending was really crap, mainly because I was pissed off at two coolest characters dying, leaving world justice to that L ripoff kid who thinks he’s so smart. Stupid Noa…But thinking of the end now makes me want to read some form of continuation in the manga, though I know that’s impossible, unless Light comes back as a Shinigami or some crazy shit like that.

Plot Outline:

- After the bus-jack, Light agrees to keep his meeting with Ray a secret
- And now he puts his plan to action…
- At the train station, Light confronts Ray as Kira, but doesn’t show his face
- Light tells him that if he turns around or disobeys his orders, he will kill him
- He demonstrates his power by killing someone then gives him an envelope
- Convinced, Ray gets on a train as Light ordered, where he can watch him from the next carriage
- Ray then takes out the contents of the envelope (as Light says) and writes down the name of all the FBI agents in the little squares cut to
fit the words

- He then puts everything back in the envelope and places it on a rack above him
- 30 minutes later, Ray gets off, but dies straight away, just as Light goes to retrieve the envelope
- In the last seconds of his life, Ray gets to see that Light is Kira
- Turns out that the paper Ray wrote on was a piece of the Death Note, which meant he was the one who killed all the other FBI agents for Light (what a devious trick!)
- This is revealed to the Japanese police and most of the officers resign due to safety reasons except a few
- With Yagami as their leader, the remaining officers join forces with L and go to see him in purpose in his hotel
- Meanwhile, Ray’s wife, an ex-FBI agent, starts to investigate her husband’s death
- The episode ends on a cliff hanger with everyone in suspense, geared up to see L’s true self

-has made sure to skip the spoiler section- xD Eeeh, I didn’t realize L was in the OP until my friend told me a few days ago xD But seeing L in the OP is different from seeing L in the episode~! I mean, neither Light or L have red or blue hair -blinku- So Light can’t kill Ray’s finacee, but it seems she’s not too important either like I thought she might become. Yay for ignorance making DN the best show eva =D

xD About DN being the best show this season?

I think DN is the best this season. There isn’t really any other anime that compares but there are at least a few good ones. Then the rest are trash. I also like light for his anti-hero-ness, but what’s even more cool is that he thinks he’s doing the right thing. So you get to see the true mind of the enemy, and finally see how they justify all the things they do. It’s pretty cool, although I don’t really see Light as a huge bad guy, just kind of a twisted hero.

hmm, what if he’s not so bad? what if his endeavors eventually rid the world of all criminals, putting everyone in the police and stuff out of work, making them homeless and eventually die out, meaning a huge decline in population, resulting in less carbon emissions, less greenhouse gases —— and the solution to global warming!

ok, being serious now, I also like Light for his anti-hero-ness, as he’s not the type of antagonist who stays behind the scenes, orders henchmen around and laugh like a maniac. Those types I absolutely hate. That’s also why L is so cool, since he would be considered the antagonist for those who find Light the hero.

Quick question for you since I’m having a debate with my friend about this:

Do you think Light killed the FBI agents, or do you think it was Penbar’s fault?

Honestly, I say Light killed them because he set it all up even though he didn’t write the names. I just can’t justify it as being put on Penbar’s shoulders and ignoring Lights blackmail or anything else he did to scare Penbar into writing the names..

Well I think Light killed them, as Penber didn’t even know he was killing people.

Penbar basicly knew he would die either way…and Light didn’t know he had a fiance, so he used that to his advantage when he took that information from Penbar when he treated him in the mall.

What I didn’t understand is that rule about others touching the death note, whats with touching the paper, and why was Ryuk not with him when he was fuckin with Penbar.

Ryuk was, just that he was invisible. Also, Light put the death note sheets in envelopes with cut out holes so that a) Penber wouldnt touch the paper and b) he wouldn’t see that there were instructions of death written on them. The rule with touching is that if you touch any part of the death note, you wil be able to see the shinigami attached to it, but ONLY that specific shinigami

Light made Penbar did it. Also Penbar didn’t touch the paper, he just wrote the agent’s name on it. (Poor guy…) But then again, if he touched it and sees Ryuk, does it make any difference? He’s going to die anyway.

I love how your reasoning is so childish and immature “I like Light because he’s evil”, “I watch it because of his thought out plans”

    LAME.

L (Ell Lawliet) dies around Volume 7 of the manga, his replacements are N (Near/Nate River) and M (Mello/Mihael Keel). Mello uses the mafia to try and get his hands on the Death Note while Near takes after L’s approach.

There is a successor to Higuchi’s Kira, and that is a guy named Mikami who is “selected” by Light to bring judgment. Additionally, Sakura TV’s Demegawa is killed by Mikami and he ends up choosing Takada “Miss Tokyo U”, Light’s ex-girlfriend/fling as the new Kira spokesperson. Light uses her as an outlet to communicate with Mikami while being under the surveillance of Near.

Yagami Souichiro dies halfway through the Near/Mello storyline sacrificing himself in a raid to try and kill Mello but instead fails to do so and dies after an explosion. Yagami Sayu is kidnapped by Mello’s henchmen which forces Light/Kira/The new L to give up the Death Note in exchange for Sayu’s freedom. She is shown as a cripple/handicap later on in the series.

Light DIES AT THE END OF THE SERIES. He is trapped and exposed in front of the ENTIRE investigation squad by Near inside an abandoned warehouse. Matsuda SHOOTS Light for what he did but is restrained from killing him. Ryuk, after seeing how pathetic Light has succumbed to after being beaten, writes his name in the Death Note and kills Light.

What else did I forget to mention?
