Guys… Near does not make an assumption that Light is Kira; we have to assume that Near and Mellow both had access to L’s final notes on the case which he kept religiously. As L focused on Raito, it is only natural for Near to at least reconsider him. Even if this were not the case, the police themselves tell Near that the suspect was told “I will shoot you and then myself” by Deputy Director Yagami. Near properly comes to the conclusion that only a father would have that kind of guilt over killing a criminal such as kira.

I love how Near makes crazy assumptions that he couldnt possibly know. It seems these last few episodes werent planned as well as the beginning. I mean how could he know with such certainty that mikami is xkira. How he even “proved” that Light was kira really didnt make sense either. It went something like this “The japanese police are working with kira so the second L must be Kira” Um why?

I agree with you on the fact that Near is far more ‘likeable’ in the anime…I really hated him in the manga.
I hate how they’re cutting out all sorts of stuff, though, just to ‘get it over with’ in a certain number of episodes.
