Death Note: Episode 25

Rating: 9.5/10

Impressions:

LOL at L rubbing Light’s feet. I won’t go into any biblical references that people have been saying, as I have no clue about them, though I will say it is seriously too gay for me (this doesn’t happen in the manga). But anyway, it was a nice episode, nicely animated and very in-touch with the emotional matter of things. I have to say Light’s acting is pretty good as well. After THAT event, he’s practically won the world (in his eyes), yet he can put on such a believable outcry of grief in the presence of the other detectives. You would think the overflow of success and excitement might make Light slip up, but then again, this IS Light I’m talking about…

Ok so L dies. What does this mean? Well, you’ve probably watched the next few episodes, so I don’t really need to make any assumptions, but I do wish to illustrate my distaste for Mello and Near that are coming up. I would have much preferred a different turning of the story from much early on (I think I’ve mentioned this), where Misa becomes a powerful and smart third party, working against L and Light. Also, L shouldn’t die in the middle of the story. Of course, being a Light fan, my ideal outcome from such a plot would be Light killing L and somehow brining Misa under his wing to create his new utopia!

The Manga ending to death note SUCKS. Up untill the last few chapters I was a light-o fan and was rooting for him to win. Then I read the end and was like WTF IS THIS?! THIS IS MADNESS!!! Like wtf… I lost all repsect for him heh. I hope the Anime changes things though

So the feet wiping scene wasn’t in the manga, huh? Yeah, that looked seriously gay to me too, especially when Light returned the favor and wiped L’s hair. My gf’s seriously disppointed L’s dead… he was her favorite character.

L was my all-time favorite character. well, i shouldn’t say “was”, he still is. so this just makes me hate Light even more than i did in the first place. I thought that the foot-wiping scene did look a little gay (i didn’t expect it, since it wasn’t in the manga) and i thought, “omg, are they seriously giving in to those stupid fans who pair them up?!” but then i read that they were making a reference to Jesus wiping the feet of Judas. which made me a little embarrassed being a Catholic and i didn’t make that connection. but w/e. this has to be the saddest moment in anime history, i’m serious! and i really just hate Mello and Near. especially Near. it’s like they just tried to make another L, you know? but they shouldn’t have done that! i’m pretty sure 98% of DN fans’ favortie character is L. and you can’t just kill off the favorite character and offer up a substitute. and to have the nerve to have Near go up to 99.99% sure of Light being Kira is ridiculous! we all know that L is the biggest genious there. he practically figured everything out on his own. the other geniouses (that includes Light) got to where they are because they had so much help from other sources. but it just pisses me off that it wasn’t L who exposed Light as Kira. even though he knew Light was Kira. at least Mello and Near don’t go thinking that they’re better than L, cuz they’re not! if i remember right, they idolized L. so yeah, at least that… whoo, sorry for going so emo on that, it just gets me so angry when i think about the whole situation with L dying and then bringing in those two brats. Near doesn’t even have the guts to show himself to Light like L did. sorry to all you Near fans, but it’s the truth. L is better than all the rest! whooo!

    Hi people,
I think you guys could help me out with my question about the anime!
I don’t catch why the police are looking for a ghost? I mean, if Kira
has ability to kill just by knowing name and seeing face. What evidence
could you put on him even you arrest him? Even you said the book, but it
is criminal to write people name on a memo? This anime could be so good,
but it lacks at somes majors point. Anyone could solve my incomprehension,
    please?
    Thanks a lot

*Shrugs* Personally I liked the feet-wiping scene…the manga completely ignored the fact that L is indeed human and does have emotions, which the anime noticed and fixed. (Might I add, I like the anime better than the manga. Maybe not so with the beautiful artwork of the manga, but there is more dramatization in the anime.)

Yeah, I was thinking about that a lot, Hoplov. In fact, I don’t think a real world police agency would even CONSIDER taking up heart attacks as a case. No matter how true it is, they’d shrug it off as a waste of time and being impossible (I can understand a private investigator like L going through with it, just not the police).

Kyeh, I like Near, but I can’t stand that they replaced L with him. Show Spoiler ▼

L was so c0o0o0ol, i even mimic his gestures and stuff..i didn’t expect L to die although i think he perceived the torment(the scene wherein he watch the skies thinking silently while the rain pours on him hard). the episode was heartfelt, and the scene wherein L wipes Light’s feet was just like having himself accept defeat already(we all know he hates losing, and has never lost once). this makes me hate Light even more(this is the first time i saw a main character do evil).

Honestly, the Judas reference does seem to be why they used it, but that reference doesn’t make sense. Light didn’t betray L, they were both using each other the entire time. L would have had Light executed had he been able to reach the right conclusion before Light won.

    I can’t believe L’s dead.
I think… I think he’s still somewhere (Near and Mello aren’t good enough for Kira)
Maybe if L used the Death Note… he wouldn’t be nor heaven or hell, where could he be? in the shinigami kingdom?
Maybe he already knew he was going to die (’cause he knew Light was Kira) so this was all part of a plan of his to make Kira show his face al last! and then defeat him in a new battle field: the hole world!
    Think about it.
    Sounds like L, hm??

I’m so sure L’s coming back, that I’m gonna wait until the 3º season comes out, hehe. I agree with Ryuzaki1314, he’s the BEST character of all. I sure he’s coming back ;)

    aiosss! ^^

I surely think that L and Raito Make a good couple, and even with the slightest catholic bible refferance. I’m an athiest so, I was blind to that connection.
“L” Was my favorite character, And everyone knows there’s a place for him in all of our hearts XD
And I hate Raito, Even if he’s “Trying to make the world a better place” He knows he will never succed in doing that. The series was sooo good though D:

well this is a rather late posting and i saw the episode months ago but anyways: seriously disliked mellow and near. LAME replacements. L was by far my favourite character but i didn’t in any way hate raito. i am a christian but didn’t notice the bible reference and i really think L and Raito would make a good couple. Sort of a match made in anime/manga heaven. Screw what anyone else wants to say, plus all the yaoi and poruno that people are making about it can’t be denied. the majority wanted there to be a relationship between them. firstly, raito has all these girls tripping over him and he feels nada for them. L is his equal, his opponent; there was quite obviously some type of attraction going on there, the creators most likely didn’t put it because they knew too many people would go ewww gay anime oh no. why is everyone so closed minded and judgemental? if being gay is wrong, it’s not my place to say so because who am i to judge?

i really don’t get this part…will someone explain to me?
I don’t get why L was feeling sad…was it because he knew he was going to die?
i was really heartbroken wen i watched L die. i couldn’t believe they would do this to the plot. i guess that he got avenged…
i really like the live-action movie ending better. but why is it that no matter wat, L always has to die!? its so horrible!
im gonna rewatch the series over and over.

    erm…one more question…
is rem a girl or boy? cuz i watch death note with english subs and they keep calling rem a “she”… is rem a girl? o.O

  17. Rebecca September 9th, 2007 11:25 pm Number of comments posted: (2)

    ^ Yup, Rem’s a girl. (According to wikipedia…)
Like many other people here, L is my favourite character. And the psychological battle between Light/Kira and L/Ryuzaki was very captivating. I loveedddd the plans and counter-plans of each. It was just great and incredibly entertaining. Of course, I was rooting for L.
And when he died, I was heart broken.
And the rest of the anime series just didn’t live up to the first half. The last episode was great but the second half of the the anime in general was not as good as the first. And whyyyy is that? Because the war between L and Kira was too freaking perfect!! I love the one vs one deal (they illustrate that in the opening theme of the first half’s episodes). The entire anime/manga was fantastic though, overall.
Although his death upsets me, I believe that keeping L alive while killing off Kira would also be a disappointment. But thats just me, someone who can’t stand perfectly happy endings.

Hey did you know that the second opening on death note proves how evil light is I mean when L dies they start with the new Japanese Metal theme song that is somehow catchy but then when you think about it. it really somehow in a strange way proves that light is evil with this theme song man this seems pretty long to say some useless thing

i think L’s death was very sad, but at least you know the plot will not be swayed by popular opinions and likes/dislikes.

this anime was quickly my favorite. It make you think. It also makes you analize your own morals and beliefs! Three cheers for death note! Rest in peace, L.

L is my favorite character in any anime i’ve read and i am upset he died, but the idea of his successor’s mello and near i found kind of enjoyable. Near i thought was also a good charcter, but they portrayed him as a bigger genius than L, but he was working off all of L’s work, so L is the obvious genius. Mello had a nice part, but after he lost the notebook, he lost alot of meaning. Nevertheless, i thought they pulled off a great ending even though L wasn’t in it.

Am I the only person on the planet who likes the character of Light more than L? I fist-pumped so hard when L died, just because he is the typical awesome, powerful, godly good guy - boring. Light truly represents the most base desires of man, and it’s morbidly delicious to see how succesful he is so far (I haven’t seen the end yet).

I like Light, but I hate his actions. People who are happy that L’s dead make me sick.

Ha! L was far from perfect, to those of you who think he was the 100% good guy. He was immature, like Light, but he had some decent sense of justice (unlike Light). Tch. *SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS* Light gets what he deserves. Despite the fact that I liked L better than Light (the look in Light’s eyes when L died made me like him less, because it reminded me of when I started to dislike his actions after he killed Raye Penber and his fiancee), I still pitied Light as he died. It was sad. Kind of like watching a monster, who truly had intents he felt were right, have the fate that would occur to anyone that had turned into that, aka Kira.
