Death Note: Episode 23

Rating: 9.6/10

Impressions:

What an awesome episode of Death Note, and the high speed car pursuit just livens the mood of what is usually only a slow and intellectual anime. Of course, that is not a bad thing, but this brings in a welcomed different form of suspense. In actual fact though, the pace of this episode is still quite slow, covering only 2 chapters. What worries me though, is that there are still 6 chapters until the real end of this arc, and hopefully that will only last 2 episodes. Yes, when this is over, non-manga readers will be shocked, and either satisfied or really pissed (I was one of those who were satisfied). I’ll say this now: we will meet Kira Light once again, and I am stoked!

Part of this episode is really random, like how L imitates Misa in her commercial. Yeah, I have to say Misa was pretty ugly in those shots, but oh well. Misa is no longer important. One thing I would like to discuss is how easily L discerned that it was a Shinigami who Higuchi was talking about. Some might think that this makes L smarter than Light, but I disagree. Light has only been in the case for a short amount of time, while L has many previous investigative situations for him to build up his theories. I still think they are more or so the same, but based on outcome…I would say that Light is smarter…

Even though I think this arc is pretty good, I’m pining for the return of kira Light, whom I think is far superior to L in terms of intelligence…but that’s just my opinion. XD

You mean the arc won’t end next episode like I thought it would? xD Ah, well, that still means Kira-Light is coming back soon T___T

A very good episode indeed, and I feel for all the Light fans out there. I too would like to see the return of the ever so devious and intelligent Kira Light. Loved the series up until he discarded his note and ryuk left, still like it, but it’s just no fun when you don’t get to see Light outwit L constantly.

I wouldn’t dispute the fact that Light is really intelligent, but L shouldn’t be discredited. When weighing the balance of the scales, Light might have the intellectual upperhand, but this is countered by his overeagerness and sometime hyper sensitive paranoia. L is less likely to become paranoid, but lacks the necessary insight to analyze everything. He’s also less likely to fly off the handle and commit an action right away.

Take the scenario when L found out where Light was by airing the announcement. Light was too rash and revealed himself. But counter that with the scene where L shows Light the pictures of the various handwritten statements by the killed prisoners. Light analyzes all possible scenarios for this before actually acting, thereby displaying that when not emotionally overcome, he is better.

Neither are perfect. But I would say the outcome when deciding who is the better of the two depends really upon the scenario. Light is more prone to snap. Show Spoiler ▼

L’s calm to the end. But anyways, as for the second arc, I’m really not looking forward to it. I quit reading the manga after the break between the two arcs. It just wasn’t as mentally stimulating for me.
