Death Note: Episode 17

Rating: 9/10

Impressions:

Ahaha~ man the quality is SOOO low this episode. It hurts my eyes watching it. >_< Everyone has a few extremely crap close ups where there faces look completely wrong and amateurish. It’s such a shame since this episode highlights one of the most intense scenes in Death Note, where the audience is led to believe that Light is going to get killed. Quick question as well: do you think Light and L will survive until the end of the series, or at least near the end? I mean, the show IS about them and if they die, the show would die too…right? Well I know the answer so don’t go giving out spoilers now, ok?

The thrilling first half of the episode, with Yagami threatening to kill his own son is done really well. It’s made to be very believable, but deep down there we all knew Light wouldn’t really die. I bet some of you expected to extremely overused ’someone-fired-a-shot-but-it-wasn’t-the-guy-with-the-gun’ scene. Either that, or Yagami somehow dies, sparing Light…

Yagami’s shocked face when L tells him about the plan strongly supports the notion that he is going to execute Light himself, though it fits perfectly with the actual plan. Yagami, although probably has 100% faith in his son not being Kira, still must put his life on the line in order to set his son free. I’m surprised he agrees to it actually…

Light is clearly good and pure now, and completely on L’s side. You should see now that L and Light display the same sense of justice, though L might just be a little more on the revenge side. So who’s to say L won’t become Kira if he receives the Death Note? Hang on…maybe he DID receive the Death Note! Or not…since we know one of the company’s 8 gets it.

So what the hell is this company with the 8 heads, one of them being Kira? Well, I didn’t bother with the specifics anyway when reading the manga, but it doesn’t really matter. The important thing now is the advancement of Light’s plan, and the new relationship between him and L. Personally, I don’t like this arc since it’s no longer about Light and L…

The ‘bonding’ scenes I expected to appear this episode between L and Light are absent, though they do appear in the preview…(the last scene where Light plants his fist in L’s face)! xD Yeah, the whole episode should be rather entertaining, and not in the detective thriller way. You can guess it will be about Misa, Light and L, and I think they make a hilarious trio!

This episode covers chapters 36 and 37 in the manga, continuing with the 2:1 chapter to episode ratio. I expected a bit more to be covered, especially with only 37 episodes, and as there is little thinking and discussion this episode. Next episode though, may cover 3 chapters, as a character in the preview suggests the plot will be speeding up…and that’s a good thing!

Preview:

Next episode – #18
It will be lax…

Wah, you didn’t like the quality in this episode? I thought this was one of the best-looking episodes in the series so far.

Didn’t they get Misa’s old Death Note? Or else the assassin would have had to come into contact with both in order to see Rem.

I thought the humour in this episode was almost bizarre. It seemed so out of place after that white knuckled “Hello I’m totally deranged and about to kill my son and his girlfriend” thing in the car. Whew… Misa-misa is so goofy, too.

Woot something that wasn’t in the movie, although it seems that the plot is still on track with the movie I still hope they will dish out something completely different for an ending, and by different I mean the success of Kira in the cleansing of the world mwhaahaha

tokidoki: the anime follows the manga, not the movie. it is actually the movie which is different, since the manga came first. also, the movie ending and manga ending are completely different…oops, that was a semi-spoiler

Oh, everyone’s so sarcastic xD I think I’m the only one who believed Yagami-san could’ve killed his son.

my my my, do you people only watch the anime or read the manga if you read the manga you would know that Raito not light, and if Yagami-san had to kill his son he would probably kill himself first before actually killing his own son, and if he was to findout that Raito was actually kira he wouldn’t bring him self to doing that.

This has been a public announcementt brought to you by OCEAN KING OF THE SLEEPING FOREST

angry dude, please take your stupidity elsehwere. just because you have read the manga does not mean you are better than those who havent. and for your information, some of us (including me) have read the manga. also, who is to say it is RAITO and not LIGHT? the accepted term now is LIGHT, so i use it as well.

I actually thought that the general animation was decent in this episode. The character animation, though, was lacking its usual articulation.
