Death Note: Episode 14

Impressions:
Ahaha~ things are getting mighty interesting now. We were thrown into a forever twisting and unpredictable world since the beginning, and this episode continues to provide us with high tension and entertaining plot twists. However, for some time now, the show has been heavily leaning on Light’s side; I want to see more of L now, as well as what he thinks in his head. We should be getting some more of that next episode. Anyway, the big question this time is: Is L really gonna die? Well, I can say one thing and that is one party is going to be severely disadvantaged next episode. Misa is still annoying me. She’s just too obsessive, though at least with her, Light manages to get Rem to kill L. But he needs to think now, what will the consequences be? Obviously, if L dies, then everyone on the investigation team will be a suspect for being the first Kira. And as Light has been the only suspect so far, he would become the prime suspect immediately. Also, L now knows that the two Kiras have met up with each other, and that he could really die at any time. Therefore, he should be setting up his own defences as well. Take note of the guy who’s been watching Light and Misa (forgot his name).
This episode covers two chapters: 30 and 31. This means the show is already halfway through volume 4, and is approximately a third of the way through. This also means that the anime needs to pick up its pace soon, otherwise it won’t finish within 37 episodes. It’s been some time since I read the manga, and most of the events are quite fuzzy, especially the later parts of the manga (as I didn’t like those parts very much – I still despise the ending). I was extremely shocked when I got to this part of chapter 31, which is where this episode ends. I imagine those who haven’t read the manga must be feeling the same anticipation and thrill as I did. Never has L been so close to death before. I’ve been wondering how Light would decide to kill L if Misa wasn’t in the picture, or if she was a third party. I should also mention that the picture quality and accuracy in relevance to the manga is still very low. The character drawings cannot compare with the manga drawings at all. Misa is ten times cuter in the manga, and this is perhaps why I do not like her as much in the anime. I can already tell you that Misa’s importance will only last for a short while. After that, she’ll just be another happy-go-lucky side character.
Plot Outline:
- Light shows Misa Ryuk by letting her touch a piece of his Death Note
- Misa and Ryuk get acquainted pretty quickly
- Light instructs Misa to make a final video explaining that she will follow Kira and carry out justice
- Misa then gives Light a condition, and that is to date her at least once per week
- Light says this is impossible as L already suspects him of being Kira
- Light also explains that he needs to date other girls to throw off suspicion from her, but Misa refuses
- Getting annoyed, Light threatens to kill Misa if she does not obey
- Rem steps in and says that she will kill Light if he tries to kill Misa, even though she will die in the process
- After Misa leaves, Light does some research and discovers Misa is actually a model
- The next day, Light asks a colleague to go with him, one of the college’s idols (who agrees)
- When he gets to L’s apartment, he is told about the final tape that has recently been sent in
- After watching it, L concludes that the two Kiras have made contact
- L also stresses over how bad it would be if Light is Kira, as Light is the first friend he has ever had
- Light returns the gesture and says L is his best friend as well
- On his way home, Misa comes to see Light again, which pisses him off severely
- Even so, he lets her into his house again and devises a fine plan
- Seeing as how Rem loves Misa and only wants her to be happy, Light convinces Rem to kill L for him
- And as Rem hates Light, increasing his life span wouldn’t kill her anyway

I was kind of shocked at how easily Light got Rem to say she/he would kill L. Then again, there are obvious reasons not to kill him right then and there (as you stated in your entry). This series makes me think too much, and I’m truly amazed at how the writer could even think up such a complex plot. In any case, I think this show rocks.
Seriously, it seems more groups are subbing it now than before it was licensed xDD And I really wanted to know what L was thinking when Light was saying what he would do if he was Kira. Hopefully there’ll be more L in the next episode ^^

Haha I watched 13 and 14 just now from different fansub, happend to happen like that.
Anyway, I had the feeling that when I saw eps 14 that Light wasn’t giving himself off as Kira, but in the ending of 13 he said he couldn’t be her boyfriend but whould pretend to be.

Whee.. What nice twist to the story. Yeah we’d been seeing Light’s side alot compared to L. I was so touched when L declared Light’s his best friend. So I really hope L won’t die
