Death Note: Episode 12

Wahaha episode 12 is so goddamn hilarious! 
L’s reaction to the notion of Death Gods is comedy gold, really. He even stuck his hands up like an idiot. Oh and the common coincidental encounter that was the last scene, that’s brilliant as well, only they don’t actually meet up. I guess Misa wasn’t concentrating, as otherwise she would have noticed that she couldn’t see Light’s life span with her shinigami eyes and realised he was Kira. Oh well, I guess it’s just another minute divergence from the manga to entertain us, and for that I am glad as if an anime sticks too closely to its originator, it does become quite boring for those who are familiar with the original material. Speaking of divergences, I was surprised about the fact that Jealous’s original remaining lifespan goes to Misa, which means she must be like…practically immortal now? She’ll probably live on for thousands of years, if not more, so sacrificing half her life span isn’t much at all. Come to think about it, it’d still suffice if she were to sacrifice her life span again…and again…and…by the way, I’m not implying anything when I say that okay?
Some people might hate Misa because she’s like, completely destroying Light’s plans, but I just LOL’d through everything. Yes, it’s quite convenient that way. She’s such a fun character with an awesome voice by Hirano, and makes the show so much more lively. Too bad she outlives her usefulness rather quickly. The problem with the anime version of Misa though, is the character design. I really hate how the producers screwed up a lot of Misa’s close ups. She looks quite retarded in some of them. Sigh, if only the art could be perfect like the manga. And L still doesn’t have any eyebrows. I hope the quality goes up soon. Misa is so much cuter in the manga. And oh yes, next episode should be when she pours her little heart out! (Can’t wait!) This episode doesn’t even cover two chapters of the manga, surprisingly. The last scene with Light and Misa in the diner must have forced the last turn of events to be pushed to the next episode. Unfortunately there won’t be a new episode next week due to the holidays.

Could Misa really tell Light was Kira by his life span? Wouldn’t it just be the same as any other person? Or does it look different if they have a Shinigami?

I thought this was a pretty good episode. I agree though, they could have animated Misa a little better in some of the close ups, but otherwise I thought it was fine. I liked the little side story, which did a pretty good job at creating some atmosphere.
This whole episode was the same stuff that was covered 2nd Death Note movie which I just watched.

Getting the rest of Jealous’ lifespan (heh, almost typed “lightspan”) doesn’t make Misa-Misa “almost immortal.” We don’t know the *natural* lifespan of a Shinigami. Remember, the whole point of the existence of Death Notes is, that’s how Shinigami steal lifespan from humans to extend their own. That wouldn’t be necessary if shinigami were naturally incredibly long-lived. The equivalent would be like telling you that you could gain an extra minute on your life for every mosquito you swat. How much of your life would you then want to waste hunting down mosquitoes? Since Ryuk tells Light that most shinigami are bored and do nothing but sit around their realm gambling instead of killing humans, it’s possible Jealous might not have had much lifespan left to give to Misa-Misa. I’m sure her life has been significantly extended, but I doubt it’s to the point that her sacrifice in the eye trade is trivial.

Am I the only person who’s irritated with Misa’s rash/idiotic acts? I did not have grudges on her before, but now she seems so immature.

absolutis, for me, thats what i like about Misa. And why did L fling his arms up like an idiot? I personally think the producers over did it but it was because L is a total logical man and accepting the existence of death gods is like impossible for him. So yeah, he just couldnt believe it. In the manga though, he just falls out of his chair, so the anime exaggerated it a lot.
