Darker than BLACK: Episode 9

Rating: 9.3/10

Impressions:

This arc has proven to be pretty interesting, especially as it focuses on a main character, Misaki. I guess this episode’s major role would be to develop her background, and perhaps give a reason as to why she becomes a member of the police. However, even though she is a main character, her powerlessness in almost everything that’s happened so far makes her seem rather insignificant. Her history with Alice is fairly generic, but it’s the events taking place in the present that make this episode entertaining. For one thing, I wonder whether Alice was really herself when she goes insane and kills her father, before turning on her friend, Misaki.

Wei’s ability is certainly explosive, though the loss of blood can’t be healthy. His powers are a bit too elaborate for my liking, though at least it can be an excuse to show more blood and gore (not that this show has much of that anyway). Hei no longer seems to be so strong anymore, with the introduction of seemingly more powerful contractors. However, I guess in the end, Hei always finds a way to win. The problem with large fights is that the weaker combatant usually discovers a cheap method of winning. This is where I can confine in Kaze no Stigma, since the main character is actually very strong.

Hei once again gets involved somehow, but seeing him again just reminds me of how little he has appeared lately. He needs to be involved in bigger and better things, or at least contribute to the plot. Simply getting involved in a fight doesn’t cut it. Anyway though, his chance encounter with Misaki at the end of this episode should be interesting. I don’t think they’ve come into contact before, and I wonder how long Hei can hide his identity. His contract payment and such have yet to be revealed, but then again I’m pretty far behind on this show (it’s up to something like episode 13 now isn’t it?)

Heh Hei’s not as weak as you think. You should see the next ep, he pulls some cool moves. Still his mystery power has been revealed, it’s accualy not that fancy. But it makes sense considering how he blew the lock in the first ep.

And yeah, Kazuma totaly kicks ass. Now that’s one heck of a strong contracter
