Darker than BLACK: Episode 10

Rating: 8.8/10
Impressions:
I had begun to lose interest in the series due to the previous 3 episodes, which I did not find as satisfying as I hoped they would be. I expected this episode to be of similar mediocrity as well (though perhaps ‘mediocre’ is a bit too harsh), and was pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying this installation immensely. Although I can’t say the overall notion/purpose of the arc is highly intelligent and interesting (lol), Misaki’s character development, as well as the awesome fight and music, add up to make an excellent conclusion to this mini-arc, and a great episode by itself. This definitely brings me back into loving this show now.

It seems Wei doesn’t die in the end, as the star (which I assume represents a contractor, or contract) doesn’t ‘fall’. Of course, there’s also the obvious absence of his ‘corpse’, to further support this idea. Anyway though, I didn’t really like Wei much due to his ridiculous power. What’s more, Hei doesn’t really impress me much either with his display of skill in this episode. If he’s really that fast, why couldn’t he have just killed Wei from the beginning? Cutting himself, spilling the blood and clicking fingers is surely too much of a handicap for Wei to defend against a supposed super-fast Hei. Oh well, at least the action is well animated, which I guess is what counts…right?

It’s pretty funny to see a blatant Pizza Hut ad in the first scene directly followed by ‘McDoness Burger’, at which the past Misaki eats. Of course, the trademarked M is altered to look more like a B on its side. I wonder why the producers didn’t just have Misaki, Alice and the third girl eat at Pizza Hut. Perhaps they thought it would be too obvious…Anyway, I’m looking forward to the next episode (still deciding on whether I should wait for Shinsen’s subs or go for sudo), probably because we see Hei with some random on the bus. Character development for Hei has certainly been lacking, so hopefully the next mini-arc will be more satisfying.

Funimation licensed this show, so as far as subs go they may be a little harder to come by. I don’t know whether or not Shinsen will drop it because of that, but I have been waiting a while for their subs of the next few episodes as well. I guess I will have to get the sudo ones.
Shinsen has already decided to drop DtB on Canada Day (July 1st). Whether Sudo drops it as well is unknown, at least to me, since they don’t have a website. It was quite the unexpected license from Funi too… and just when I was begging for more subbed episodes -_-
I still haven’t decided if I want to go through the hassle of finding other people’s subs. I liked Mishicorp’s the best, but they seemed to give up after a while, now that it’s lisenced Shinshen dropped it. And really I haven’t been to thrilled at how they just keep giving us questions but the only answers so far have been rather useless.
Ah thanks guys, I guess I’ll have to rely on another sub now.
Heh funimation’s going to butcher this show too? I hope the dub is atleast watchable, but my expectations aren’t high x.x
I personally don’t see where all this Funi dubs hate comes from. I haven’t really studied their dubs but in my average viewing of what they show at cons and cartoon network I haven’t run accross any show that just hurts. And infact I do believe the english dub for FullMetalAlchemist has won many awards.
Also on the topic of other subbers, it looks like anon is continuing where sudo left off. I really have no idea what their subs are like. They /are/ speed subs and done by a group that doesn’t care about getting yelled at. So I don’t see it being that high quality….
i dunno about anon, last time they released a fake sub of higurashi episode 1…luckily i was warned before downloading ^^;;
