Code Geass – Lelouch of the Rebellion: Episode 6

Rating: 8.8/10
Impressions:
So, is this a filler? Hell no! After five episodes, Code Geass finally takes a break from serious plot development and throws us viewers an entertaining alternative to shows like Tokimeki Memorial. Seriously, Tokimeki’s running gags are lame, but for some reason this episode of Code Geass did not disappoint me at all and I found myself highly enjoying this relaxing change. It’s probably because not all the characters are stupid, and there is at least some seriousness to the episode. We get to see Lelouch acting out of his comfort zone, getting physical (not really) and not acting like a mastermind who killed the prince of Britannia should. Of course, with the new enthusiasm in this episode, everybody has to get involved! I loved both Karen’s and C.C.’s brief on-air times since I’m still juggling between those to as to who I like better. Shirley was never in the runnings for me since she’s just…not good. There’s also another Pizza Hut reference, and this time it’s extremely blatant. I think Garten’s theory that Pizza Hut is one of Code Geass’s sponsors may be true. Anyway, with all the fun this episode, things should return to normal in the next one. Hopefully, not too many people were put off by this episode and instead enjoyed it like me. If only Tokimeki showed the same level of maturity like this, but then it wouldn’t be your ‘average harem’ now would it?

The Emperor of Britannia is finally introduced this episode, and it turns out he’s just a fat fart (who is actually Leloush’s father) and just wants to continue the war for whatever the reason. I’m already disliking him as the bad guy, since I assumed the main antagonist for a intelligent guy like Lelouch would be another grand schemer. That’s still a possibility though; some shady character working behind the scenes, plotting some ghoulish conspiracy to overthrow the Emperor or something like that. Or maybe I’m just comparing Code Geass with Death Note too much. I tend to do that – compare similar shows and expect the same things from those categorized together. It’s like what happened just yesterday. I started watching RahXephon on Youtube, and all of you ‘real’ anime viewers (unlike me) would have definitely seen or heard of it, but unfortunately I hadn’t. So, what did I think after watching the first 5 minutes? EVANGELION! Anyway, the preview of the next episode, in my opinion, gives away too many nice little scenes that should be enjoyed to the full next episode. There’s one where Karen is caught with her knife, though that can easily be explained. There’s another where it seems Suzaku falls onto or kisses Shirley (come to think of it, since I don’t like Shirley and I don’t like Suzaku that much, they’d be a nice pair, leaving Lelouch to shuffle between C.C. and Karen!) The other scene seems to be about Lelouch’s past, since he is shown at a younger age, as well as a younger Nanaly.

Plot Outline:
- Suzaku’s transfer brings about a lot of hostility and fear, since he is an 11
- Lelouch signals for Suzaku to meet him on the roof
- The two talk and exchange information on top of the school
- In Clovis’ home, Yuffie is taking a stroll around the premises, marvelling at the various paintings
- Lelouch brings Suzaku back home, delighting Nanaly
- After the visit, the two agree to pretend to not know each other as it could bring unwanted suspicion
- Jeremiah is notified of his demotion
- At school the next day, Lelouch gives out some more orders
- At home, C.C. orders some pizza from Pizza Hut
- Lelouch’s ‘Zero’ mask is stolen by his cat

- He runs after it, but Millary is notified of this and makes capturing the cat an all-school event
- The prize for capturing the cat is a kiss by any of the School Council members
- Both Karen and Shirley work together to catch the cat since they don’t want to give away their first kisses
- When they corner the cat, Shirley starts doubting the authenticity of Karen’s reasons and the cat gets away
- Suzaku and Lelouch meet up and they both go for the cat
- After climbing several flights of stairs, both make it to a sloping roof
- Lelouch slips but is saved by Suzaku
- The cat drops the mask, just before he is caught by Suzaku
- After safely hiding the mask, the two make their way back down
- Suzaku is then accepted into the school council by Lelouch’s request, and he is (sort of) accepted socially
