Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion: Episode 5

Rating: 8/10

Impressions:

I shouldn’t stay up too late today. I only got three and a half hours sleep yesterday since I had to do prepare a science presentation. And if you know me, you’d know I ALWAYS leave EVERYTHING to the last minute…literally. Anyways, that’s not related to anime so who cares!? Ok, Code Geass; yup, another awesome episode! The series’ tone has been lightened slightly by the appearance of C.C.! She is quite a likeable person I’d say, as a viewer, though I can only imagine the shit Lelouch must be feeling whenever he sees her. I couldn’t help but crack up when I saw that excellently done scene, when Karen had come to talk to Lelouch with C.C. twirling around behind her. I always hoping for a little more reaction from Karen for the kiss, but since she didn’t do much even after the shower incident, I didn’t expect much from her. C.C. herself is quite an enigma, and I’m starting to wonder whether there’s a secret room in some lab underground with a giant tank full of soulless clones…now where did I get that from? I’m still not quite following the situation here regarding her, so I guess I’ll just wait for some more information from the series or dig around the internet. I hope she’s allocated more screen time as well.

I’m not sure whether to think of her as some clueless happy-go-lucky girl who somehow obtained the powers to give people Geass, or a mature, sensible woman who sometimes gets confused with the most basic of things. What I mean is, her voice is deep AND she looks pretty mature. Yet, she only acts her supposed age sometimes. No normal person (mentally) would suddenly barge into some random guy’s house and get into bed right? And the fact that their ‘accomplices’ now doesn’t help her cause anyway. Still, the concept of Lelouch having a close ally now, couple with the appearance of Suzaku, who is both his friend and mortal enemy at the same time, is indeed quite interesting. The thrill of the ride has just begin, now that mostly everyone (hopefully) has taken up their positions and are ready to confuse, entertain, delight and awe the viewers! For some odd reason I feel that a 26 episode run would be insufficient for such a series, so I’m anticipating a 52 episode series. That’s a whole year of Geass goodness! Apart from C.C. though, I hope Karen and her rebel organisation continues to uphold an important role in the anime.

Lelouch’s high school friends need some extra coverage as well. The orange haired girl seems to be interested in Lelouch, though of course he is too consumed in destroying the Britannian empire like the thoughtless yet highly intelligent guy (no, they are NOT contradictory) he is to notice, return any feelings or even feel for anyone apart from Nanaly and Suzaku. That’s what enables him to be an excellent tactician though, as there are less emotional stresses for him to deal with. Suzaku, on the other hand, has already been swept away by the princess of Britannia and has already promised her to help her exact vengeance on the murderer of Clovis; Lelouch! How ironic. In other topics, I have 99% confidence in C.C. and Lelouch not getting together, since that would be incredibly brainless, though there is a high chance Karen will fall for Lelouch (if she hasn’t already). She’ll probably end up falling for Zero too and have conflicting emotions before finding out he and Lelouch are one in the same (nah, I’m just thinking of Spiderman). I can’t really see Lelouch developing genuine feelings for anyone, though I can definitely imagine him using all the foolish girls who fall for him in his war against the Britannian empire. Another thing on my wishlist for this show is some more mecha, and especially, the main characters getting more action in the form of mecha fights.

Plot Outline:

- In some desert city called Area 18, a raid is taking place by the sister of the late Clovis and her army of Knightmare Frames
- The city is easily obliterated and she plans to take the fighting to Area 11 next (Japan) to seek out the one who killed her brother, known only to her and the rest of the world as Zero
- When Lelouch returns home, C.C. greets him as if she were a part of the family
- She had already made friends with Nanaly and convinced her that she’s a friend of Lelouch
- Lelouch drags her to his room to question her, but she refuses to answer most of his questions and instead gets into his bed and announces that she will be sleeping in his room so she won’t be found
- Elsewhere, Suzaku is cleared of suspicions of killing Clovis
- As he is outside, a woman falls from above into his arms, and introduces herself as Yuffie
- Together, the two explore the city as if they were on a date

- At school, Karen approaches Lelouch to ask him something
- Lelouch sees C.C. wondering around behind her and promptly kisses Karen to prevent her from seeing C.C.
- He then takes C.C. onto the roof, where the two have further discussion about his powers and to what extent they can be used
- The demoted Jeremiah is lured into a trap by fellow Britannians, as they all want to get rid of him for letting Zero escape
- Suzaku comes to the rescue in the new Knightmare frame and defends Jeremiah, not wanting anymore fighting to take place
- Yuffie gets in the way and Suzaku is forced to protect her from an oncoming barrage of projectiles
- Afterward, Yuffie announces her true identity, which is the princess of Britannia, the younger sister of the woman from the beginning of the episode attacking area 18
- Everyone immediately bows down to her
- The next day, Suzaku transfers to Lelouch’s school and ends up in the same class as him, only after swearing to Yuffie that he’d helf her get rid of Zero

Code Geass is a sunrise mecha show. It HAS to be 51 episodes. and yes C.C. is love. I thought she would be really shy, but then it turns out she’s all bossy. Amazing combination.

Well, I certainly got a shock when I heard C.C.’s voice. She certainly doesn’t fit in the quiet and shy category. Is it already a cliche for power-granters like her to have small personalities?

I *heart* C.C. Lelouche seems like he’d be such a drag to love. I feel bad for Shirely, since she seems most interested. Perhaps we’ll see Lulu have a change of heart, unlike Yagami who really wanted to be crazy throughout. By change of heart, I don’t me in destroying Britannia, but in the aspect of his relations.

There’s so many things about this episode that I pointed out in my blog entry (yes I started with episode 5, ’tis not a crime right? lol) that I think I probably ranted (which is kinda my style of blogging anyways). But I do have one thing to say right now (at 4:35AM):

    Cornelia is uber-hawt.
