Code Geass – Lelouch of the Rebellion: Episode 12

Rating: 9.2/10
Impressions:
This show never ceases to amaze me. What would otherwise be another average episode with some plot and character development, becomes one full of surprises and twists. Not to mention more mysteries are continually arising. We are introduced to a few new faces, including a guy wearing some headgear, standing on the roof of Lelouch’s school and seemingly communicating with C.C., as well as a woman called Rakshata, who is perhaps the creator of the Guren Nishiki. The new questions also provide excellent material for further character development, which I love as there is such a diverse range of character types in this show. C.C. tries to convince the person on the academy’s roof that Lelouch is nothing but perhaps a tactical partner or even a pawn to her, though obviously she is gaining fondness of him. Also, with the revelation of the leader of Kyoto, and the resolution he gives to help Lelouch, provides Karen with ample opportunity to defend Lelouch and his identity, showing her obvious affection for him. Even her jealousy of C.C. is emphasized with her reminiscence.

It’s highly exciting just seeing the various interactions the characters make with each other; one which I am looking forward to is the eventual meeting of C.C. and Karen by themselves. Karen will surely have many questions to ask her. Many other characters are also getting closer to other characters through various coincidences, such as Villeta finding the photo of Lelouch, ultimately Zero, Karen on the verge of discovering Zero’s identity, and now Shirley confining herself in Lelouch for comfort regarding her dead father, who had been killed by Lelouch himself. I’m sure a lot of drama will arise from this, as seen in this episode alone. I’m pretty sure Shirley will discover Zero’s identity, and her friendship with Lelouch will be forever torn. She will probably also side with the Britannians against Lelouch and betray him to them. In the end, Shirley will probably end up helping Suzaku, as it’s being hinted that they will have roles regarding each other in the episodes to come.

Another surprise is the insertion of a rather useless scene; Nina masturbating to a picture of Euphemia. Perhaps this is just to prove she is a lesbian, or maybe it really does have something to do with the plot. I’m sure she will eventually discover Suzuaku and Euphemia together and go psycho about it. I can already envision her jealousy, as she would probably have to go through much trouble to meet Euphemia, but then find out Suzaku, someone who she considers lower than her, is already acquainted with the Princess who she admires so much. However, when speaking of love triangle’s, the C.C. x Lelouch x Karen is far more interesting. I doubt Shirley has any chance though. Like I mentioned before, the one interaction I am looking forward to most is C.C. and Karen. It would actually be far more entertaining if Karen walks in on C.C. and Lelouch talking together in his room. That will probably when Lelouch confesses his identity. Regarding that though, I’m surprised at the monologue Lelouch gives during the preview of the next episode, which indicates he wants to give up his role as Zero.

Plot Outline:
- Cornelia and other Britannian officials discuss the recent battle at Narita
- At school, Shirley receives some tickets to a concert, which she decides to take Lelouch to as a date
- She ends up giving him a ticket, with C.C. looking on with interest as she is talking to a mysterious man on the roof of the school
- At the base of the Order, Zero and the others discuss Kyoto and their wish to meet with them
- In the school council building, Nina is masturbating to a picture of Euphemia, when Nanaly walks in with concern (luckily she can’t see)
- Later on, when Lelouch returns home, Nanaly tells him about how she thinks he is getting distant
- He takes her hand and promises her that he will never change
- At school, Lelouch explains to C.C. that he needs to have control over Kyoto and asks her for help, which she agrees to
- Elsewhere, Suzaku is helping with the rescue operation after the recent battle at Narita

- Cecile and Lloyd discuss the involvement of a woman named Rakshata, who perhaps had a hand in the construction of the Guren Nishiki
- Suzaku notices Shirley walk past the site, but fails to make contact with her
- Zero and a few representatives of the Order arrive at Kyoto’s base
- The leader of Kyoto forces Zero to remove his mask, but it turns out that it is C.C. in the uniform and not Lelouch
- Lelouch reveals himself as the pilot of a Frame inside the base and explains his knowledge of the leader of Kyoto, Kirihara
- He then reveals himself to Kirihara, who has actually known Lelouch for quite some time
- With this knowledge, Kirihara realises Lelouch genuinely wants the destruction of Britannia and agrees to support him
- At the site where Suzaku was before, Shirley confirms the corpse of her father, who had been killed by Zero
- When Lelouch is on his way to the concert, he sees Shirley, who tells him about how Zero killed her father (and kissed him for comfort)

I bet that Shirley’s going to turn psycho. It is customary that in every SUNRISE series there is a psycho. And sadly that psycho is always female…
I personally wasn’t surprised at Lelouch monologue for preview of the next episode, after all for the first time he’s just met the human side to the damage he’s causing, seeing first hand the effect that has on a friend of his. Primarily so far he seems to have been ignoring that part, that while he attempts to destroy his fathers empire he’s hurting a lot of people in the process.
Was C.C. talking to that guy on the roof? I thought he was spying and she was talking to herself xD
I’m surprised Lelouch may want to give up his role as Zero, too. Does Shirley mean that much to him? And OMG, don’t say they kissed! -covers her eyes-
I don’t really like the idea of Lelouch backing out of his plan at this point, it’s an extreme display of cowardice and lack of will. He seems to have enough intelligence to know that nothing in life goes perfectly and should certainly be aware that collateral damage and human sacrifice are inevitable in war. Though he treats the war as nothing but a game of chess so I guess that’s an indication of his lack of maturity.
TripleA: that would be one hell of an episode xD
eonism: well, I think that in his mind, he already knows that many people are being hurt, but in fact with his father’s rule, there are probably even more people who are being hurt. So in the end, he thinks his actions are for the better. I think this is more like how he is rather attached to shirley as a friend, which is why he is shocked
Whispered.Hope: I think I like commented on your blog 3 times but none of them showed up… ^^’ And anyway, yeah I assume CC was talking to the guy on the roof.
Shirukii: I certainly hope that perhaps it is part of his overall master scheme lol
-blinku- Hontou? I better check those comments…-tries to remember how- xD
Well, that assumption is better than a spy. That would be trouble~! And Lelouch can’t become Light if he stops his plans now xD
I never did think of Lelouch as Light (who is more or less a complete psychopath at this point in the Death Note series), but more along the lines of a Chaotic Neutral type alignment.
Sunrise seems to have something going on against all the Nina’s in the world.
Nina (Mai Otome) = electra complex (ooh kinky daddy con)
Nina (Code Geass) = yuri (hime-con probably works too o_O;;)
Coming Up…
Nina (????) = ???? (I don’t want to know…)
Yeah, right now, Lelouch is no where near Light. But I can see him totally going that path xD
well unlike light lolouch has ninali right?
he is doing all this for her…..and it seems the affections for his sister is pretty deep as seen in the episode…..
so maybe it is that one thing that might not take him over that neutral line…….
Oooh, anyone noticed that the Pizza Hut Girl status shifted from C.C. to Shirley this episode?
Seriously, doesn’t anyone eat anything besides Pizza Hut in there?
But if something happens to his sister…the dude’s gonna have a major breakdown xD
For rich people, they sure eat pizza a lot, ne? Don’t they have cooks around to make them bentos?
Everyday the pizza will be eaten!!

Dude, you guys are a bunch of cold basters, first of Lelouch is HUMAN, though in this episode is the first his actions affect him directly or through a FRIEND.Lelouch must come to terms with his actions and choose the path he MUST walk.
Um no. The Masturbation scene was in the american version. I remember watching it on T.V. There clear as day. It was not edited it out.
