Code Geass - Lelouch of the Rebellion: Episode 11

Rating: 9.9/10

Impressions:

My god that was an insanely awesome episode! The first half, the battle, is spectacular, while the latter half, the flashbacks, is probably the most interesting thing I’ve seen in this series yet. First, the confrontation between the Order of the Black Knights and the Britannian army, with the Japanese Liberation Front joining coming into the fray as well. The battle is certainly very well executed, with the draw of an ending actually believable. We got a couple of interesting match-ups too; Cornelia vs Guren Nishiki and Lancelot vs Guren Nichiki, while Tougo made an appearance too. Cornelia proves that she is an excellent fighter by being able to wipe out masses of enemies with the little modified Frame that she uses. However, it just can’t stand up to a more advanced model with high capabilities, namely Karen’s Guren Nishiki. However, the true pairing would be the Lancelot and the Guren Nishiki, since they are both new and advanced models. At least with this, the sides are becoming even.

I was disappointed that Tougou didn’t appear stronger, but since his side is more likely to help Zero, if only two major factions are appointed, the Japanese Liberation Front would merge with the Order. Therefore, the appropriate two power giants are Suzaku and Karen. Oh and yeah, Suzaku didn’t get the Geass as some people speculated, but rather a nasty shock from his flashback and ended up mentally unstable. This is probably not serious, as he is a major piece in this chess game, even though I wish he would just die already. However, something along the lines of getting a Geass should happen before episode 14 due its title being ‘Geass vs Geass’. This also includes the possibility of Lelouch fighting CC though, for whatever reason. If someone else has to get the Geass, I would hope it’s a third party; perhaps another student. This would also call for the introduction of a new character, as I don’t like the idea of Suzaku getting it. It would severely reshape the balance of power, which is good and balanced as it is right now.

This episode is a tribute to CC, and I can already see many previously unsure fans leaning towards her when it comes down to whether she or Karen is better. While I agree that Karen with her hair spiked up is hotter than any other character, when it comes down to personality, Karen is just another normal girl with a grudge. CC on the otherhand, is still highly mysterious and her background/past is becoming very interesting. And so because of this, the best part of this episode for me is the latter half; the flashbacks. I really have no idea how to interpret all the images, though it seems to be like CC was human but somehow got infected by some parasitic organism. Well anyway, I’m sure it will be explored in more detail in the episodes to come. Her name still needs to be revealed, and I’m guessing it has some significance or meaning to Lelouch. The development of CC’s and Lelouch’s relationship is also rather moving, and CC appears so damn cute when she’s happy like that. This episode has certainly increased my love for her.

Plot Outline:

- Suzaku learns that the Black Knights are involved in the battle
- Kewell is killed by Guren Nishiki in front of Viletta
- Toudou and his group arrive at the scene and begin engaging the Britannians
- Guildford engages Toudou to allow Cornelia to escape
- Zero, Guren Nishiki and other Order members head towards Cornelia to trap her
- Cornelia, unaware of Guren Nishiki’s power, tries to engage it but ends up getting both arms ripped off
- Euphie authorises Suzaku to launch in his Lancelot to save Cornelia
- Suzaku ploughs through the terrain and arrives in time to rescue Cornelia
- He then engages with Karen, though the Guren Nishiki ends up falling off a cliff and damaging its arm

- Zero orders everyone to retreat
- Cornelia orders Suzaku to go after Zero, while she orders the rest of her forces to fall back as well
- Suzaku catches up with Zero and destroys his frame
- Just before Suzaku can shoot Zero, CC steps up to his frame and forces Suzaku to remember some painful memories with her power
- Zero walks up to her and places his arm of her shoulder, but ends up receiving the harsh experiences as well, along with CC herself
- Suzaku goes berserk and starts ravaging the area, causing debris to strike CC while she is protecting Zero
- In a cave, Lelouch attends to CC’s wounds and notices she is no human due to her healing rate
- Lelouch learns CC’s real name and she begins to warm up to him
- As the Order has made it to safety, Karen is called upon to retrieve Zero, and at the same time she also meets CC

Jeremiah (Orange-kun) will be the other one to get the Geass power I think - he already dropped before the vehicle of scientists working on the Geass project and carrying another capsule like the one CC came from.

Argh, angle brackets ruined my comment =( it was long too. Oh well, to summarize: CC ftw! Though I still marginally prefer Karen, probably due to more screentime.
Truly an amazing episode. As much as I wouldn’t like to see Suzaku get the geass, I think the introduction of a third party character with it would completely change the tactics and balance of the war much like the introduction of the fake Kira in Death Note changed the dynamic between Kira and L. Also, the history between Lelouch and Suzaku would make for an interesting scene if/when they discover each other’s identities.

With Suzaku’s ideals, he would probably never use the geass even if he got it.
In any case, this episode definitely has one of the most awesome fight scenes in any anime in recent months. I was just afraid of Lulu going deredere to get out of his pinch with the Lancelot, once/if he found out who was piloting :p.

Shirukii: I was sort of hoping Suzaku and Lelouch saw each other when affected by CC, though it seems at least Lelouch didn’t realise as he didnt think too much of it afterwards.

wiseone: he is certainly a likely candidate, and right now I think he’s not so much on the britannian’s side anymore, as his sole purpose is to kill zero

selkirk: you know, i didnt really think about whether suzaku would use the geass if he had it, but i’m starting to think a third party will get the power.

eurys: lol yeah suzaku should die…

rdrake: yes!! another CC fan! rofl

Jeremiah is of the purist fraction, as it stands he is pretty much the “Yzak Joule” of the show.

Him getting Geass would be rather … wierd, in fact I cannot see anyone getting a contract and after 11 episodes its unlikely there are additions to the cast, expecialy considering how large the cast already is.

Toudou … he seems to be a very capable man, from comments it seems he turned a battle and make Japan win it WITHOUT using knightmare frames, even if it was ultimate pointless.

I really not seeing JLF and OBK merging, they have somewhat diferent goals (JLF is liberating Japan with OBK being taking down Brittania) and the real power on Japan is in Kyoto … JLF is just another liberation movement.

ahh I dont think the liberation and order will merge either, but if they’re fighting against britannia, they’re more likely to help each other than help the enemy.

    Anyways freakin awesome episode!!

Yes but Lelouch aim is destroy the Brittania royal family, going by his comments the real power in Japan is Kyoto (whatever that means)… as I stated JLF is one of Japan many liberation movements that are supplied by Kyoto (Toudou was even comming from there with knightmares).

Lelouch does not want to be tied with then or anyone else because it ultimate undermines his goals, as it stands he can even get support from elements within Brittania that dislike the situation … support that would be gone the moment he allies with Japan Liberation movements.

Lelouch will help then ONLY when it suits his goal of “defending the weak from the strong”, likewise he likely will stand up to Brittania in similar cases.

Danny: Actually, I’m tired of Suzaku being bashed, hence my “headdesk” comment, just like “facepalm”, you know?

The part where Jeremiah (Orange-kun) limps across the street and then collapses had me rolling. The guy may have escaped alive from his melted Frame, but his mental health was clearly damaged by Zero.

C.C. 4ever! Still number 1 in my book, and yes this was a terrific episode. I thought it couldn’t get better until Lulu went into C.C. for some flashbacks Wheww!

oh and the only reason i have enve the slighest good faith toward sazuka is becuase he is a good guy…(we dont yet know what lelouchs real intention are, i mean sometimes he seems damn evil)..hence sazuka is the only good guy left to face lelouch IF he becomes evil i just hope he relizes what a jackass he is fighting for the military ***which kills innocent people***….if not well i hope sazuka dies a horrible death :P

Hehe i dont care if lelouch becomes evil, he’ll still be better than suzaku. Just because someone is evil doesnt mean we’re meant to hate him or something. :-P

I think there is a higher chance of CC and Zero having a Geass battle. I mean you can’t forget when he held a gun to his own head. Besides Orange-kun is a prety insignificant part of the story.
