CLANNAD: Episode 22

Rating: 8/10

Impressions:

So is this technically the last episode? Well there’s still one left to air, so I will so no for now. But it seems safe to say that the real story has ended (at least in the anime version), so I’ll go ahead and talk about it here. Clannad’s story, or rather, sequence of arks, IMO, is slightly better than Kanon’s. But this ‘ending’ is a lot worse, so in the end, if you ask me to compare the two shows, I’m going to have to say they are roughly equal. Clannad is noticeably more light-hearted and comedic, with that extra romantic element that Kanon did not really have. Overall though, I still like Air better (it was short and very sweet).

This episode is more or less quite predictable, especially with Nagisa breaking down before the play, and having friends and family save the day. It doesn’t strike me as very emotional or surprising as well, as personally, I don’t find the story very sad at all. Akio’s speech definitely has a lot of impact, so I’d say that that’s the highlight of the show. Other than that, this ending’s been quite mediocre in comparison to some other arcs. If anything, Kotomi’s arc is highly out of place, once you think about how the rest of the show is no where near as sad. I really can’t believe that the other world sequences are really just a visualisation of the play…which is somewhat ‘gay’.

Kinda expected this to die off in the end knowing how much more story the game had and how few episodes the show had left.

Would have been much better if they took time and made a second season, but i guess thats to much to ask :)

Overall the series had been good i guess.

There’s still the After Story left to go. And I highly doubt KyoAni would leave that unadapted.

Yes, this ending was a really bad one. Everything ended good, but it feelt somewhat rushed and didn´t have near as much impact as the show implied that it would have.

So it was a big dissapointment for me to watch this. But really, after Kotomi´s arc they rushed everything, Ryou/Kyou/Tomoyo in two eps and then spending the last 4 on Nagisa? Oh my god that´s bad.

But oh well, overall the show is really good so it´s a must buy when I can get my hands on the DVDs.

I heard that the other world scences are really some symbolism with the real world but isn’t explained very well until the after story.

burnedalive: I thought the movie was worse than this. I guess I just didn’t like the different feel of the entire story. That’s just me, though.

Overall, I like this ending. Not so dramatic or romantic or eventful, but the purpose has been met. Nagisa establishes her club and she performs like she dreamed about. And finally, the confession, although it was technically after their date.

This series as a whole is probably the best Key adaptation by KyoAni. Kanon and Air were good but Clannad had better development all around. There were a few blunders here and there but personally, Clannad is my favorite out of the three.

    @ Shin

I agree with ur first statement.

I didn’t like the movie :S, putting aside the fact that i didn’t like the drawing style (kinda retard), it seems there personalitys were messed up badly.

Well, this episode was lame :S i really liked clannad and the happy ending but the way it ended was just too flat.

^ Oh definitely, Mako. I should have mentioned that because Nagisa was hardly in the movie, to me at least. But the movie had a good ending too, and I thought Ushio was the cutest thing in the world. Just think mini-Nagisa calling you ‘papa.’

@Shin I agree with both your points. Although Kanon had more dramatic punch Clannad and better more intresting characters, more development, and Nagisa >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ayu. So the two even are even in my book haha.

I have to agree with everyone else, ending was way tooooo forced, to rushed, should have extended the thing for 32 or more episodes, really, they a loot on Fuko and Tomoyo’s arc, seemes like everyone else was just secondary characters

The only thing I’m gratefull is they heard my pray, they keept fuko like she has to be, death, i’m only gratefull for that, the rest……. toooo rushed, like Deat Note’s anime ending

I would seriously suggest even those who never played the game to NOT watch the movie. Really, the way TOEI crammed nagisa’s route + after story into a 1 hour 30 minute movie with original character personalities completely destroyed is not good at all. I mean, since when did Kyou and Tomoyo were in good terms, anyway, and what was the point of their appearance in the movie? It felt like the only reason they were in the movie was because of how popular those two characters are. The only real good thing about the movie was probably Usio.

I would be seriously disappointed if KyoAni decide not to anime the after story portion of this because the ending will indeed feel like something is lacking. They are still too many unresolved things, like Tomoya & his father’s relationship or the matter with the alternate world. Luckily, it seems like it’s been confirmed that after story will indeed be aired on summer.
