CLANNAD: Episode 2

Rating: 8.5/10

Impressions:

I wonder if KyoAni will give Tomoya time with each girl, like they did with Kanon (and Air, but less noticeable due to the number of episodes). So far, Tomoya’s relationship with Nagisa has developed speedily and firmly, though he also has a clear foothold on the other girls as well. Probably because of this, it feels like Clannad has been moving amazingly quickly over the first two episodes. The humour is awesome, but not excessive like most comedies (I shouldn’t use the word excessive, since humour is a good thing hehe). The hit combo and air time is priceless.

In contrast with the comedy, Clannad has already gotten pretty deep in the emotional aspect. This is pretty evident when it comes to Tomoya and his father. At first, I wasn’t quite sure what to think of his dislike of his father, but after the revelation of his fight three years ago, I can understand pretty well. Aside from that, there’s the story of the mysterious girl in the beginning of the episode. I still have no idea what to make of it, or of the possible backgrounds that Nagisa has. And knowing Key, each of the girls probably has some kind of sad and impacting story to unveil.

Ahh, the OP and the ED…The ED, first of all, is a song, sung by Nagisa (I think) about the dango daikazoku (big dango family). It sounded pretty stupid to me at first, but now I realise it probably has some kind of significance to Nagisa and her story. Regardless though, it’s pretty catchy after listening to it for a while. Anyway, I like the OP song a lot more than Kanon’s, though I still think Air’s is the most impressive. As for the animation, I don’t approve of having names matched with the characters. Apart from that though, it’s pretty good, exhibiting the usual quality excellence that KyoAni excels in.

The main guy is NOT Tomoyo – It’s Tomoya. Tomoyo is the girl who pwned those motorcycle guys and Sunohara.

Mag Mell is pretty good, but AIR’s Tori no Uta will never be beaten.

Dango’s, STUPID?! That’s a serious offense! Dango daikazoku is greatness… oh well that’s just my opinion.

Furuba: probably because the Clannad girls are more fun in general (and more humour can be injected out of them)

If I had to rate the OP’s from Air, Kanon and Clannad, it would be as follows: 1. Last Regrets – Kanon 2. Tori no Uta – Air 3. Megumeru – Clannad
Part of the reason is because of the remixes done by Sharpnel Sound.

    crazy library girls ftw!
